Burn a Flag, NOT the School down!

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,209750,00.html

A teacher in Kentucky, Dan Holden, decided that show and tell was better than a book.  And often time it is.  Touching, seeing, feeling an issue is far better to a child than reading a dull boring text book on it.

But there is a difference between showing a dead frog, and burning the school down!  This is not some young idealic huffed out teacher.  This guy has been teaching for 27 years!  And he decides to burn not one, but 2 flags - IN A CLASS ROOM??????

Perhaps he is getting senile.  Last I checked, when I was in school, the teacher could take us outside on special occassions, and although Kentucky gets lots of snow, I dont think that was the case this past friday!

My only conclusion is that he was just plain not thinking.  The worst thing that could have happened did not.  And for that I am glad.  But next time he decides to do a show and tell, take a field trip!

And the ACLuelessU?  There response was they would rather see the kiddies fry than for any ones rights to be trampled!  Here is the Clueless quote:

"if a school is masking their objections to flag burning under the guise of safety, it raises questions about freedom of speech and academic freedom,"

No, stupid!  Ir raises questions about the teachers judgement, but the safety of the students, as they have so often sued over, is the FIRST priority!  Dont you just love hypocrites?

You do NOT have the right to burn stuff on school property. Especially inside school property, with kids around, where it could burn down. I can't believe the ACLU. What about the right to life of the kids? I guess as long as the teacher chooses to burn down the school, then it's just being pro-choice...

Hey!  I agree!  But I would not have been upset if he went out on the football field and burned it.  The only damage then would have been the jocks when they decided to show him an example!

but a Classroom?  The ACLU is getting worse by the day.

I think the ACLU would defend a person that started a fire in a crowded movie theater - as long as the "firebug" didn't yell "fire".
This reminds me of the nightclub fire in Rhode Island that killed about a hundred people - they set off pyrotechnics inside the building.
He can babble all he wants. He put those kids in danger. I want to inflict pain on him. Perhaps branding the words "I'M A STUPID JACKASS" on his backside would be appropiate.

Doc - I'm livid - tell me that there are some people with common sense out in the world - that this guy is an exception & not the rule.

Well, that would not be a bad thing.  He still gets to be stupid, and live!

And yes, there are some people with common sense.  Unfortunately due to Nanny laws, they are becoming a minority.

Wow...that is probably one of the most idiotic things I've heard in a long time.

True!  Save the Amendments, kill a kid!  I dont see why they wont be honest about their slogan.

Apparently...no matter how much I toss it around in my head...I can't see the logic. I thought fire+maniac teacher+classroom= Dead children

Fire codes are our friend...that shouldn't be any fire in a school unless it's the chemistry lab...because it's designed for burning/heating.

GAH! Who lights up something in a classroom?...Maybe next week he'll blow up a car in the parking lot...as long as he's expressing himself.

That's the perfect defense for an arsonist. "I was just making a statement."

Thanks Doc - for a minute I thought we (you, me, & JU) were alone in the world.

No, actually, I think they had a brain fart!  But given some of their other (ACLU) tirades, perhaps we are seeing the real ACLU?

From their statement, the ACLU would defend them!  Shameful.
