I made the jump, and Id like to share the little things I changed to make the jump.

- stop playing the humans, other races get better bonuses ie. the drath

- transport rush! you get transports first, then rush a few opponents. If youre lucky you can take over a minor race. voila, 3 capital planets.

Everyone else feel free to leave their own bit of knowledge

Ah, and what everyone said about making your way up the diplo tree and then trading for combat tech ? right on.

These tips work on suicidal also. However, I play the humans because the computer needs all the help it can get.

I find one of the biggest advantages is in tech trading. This allows you to get money and also advance in tech quite rapidly. Turning tech trading off is perhaps the biggest jump in difficulty level available.

I hear so much about eyes of the univers, and I have to agree that it is great. However, I just build sensor drones and park them around my planets. The AI can't seem to defend its transports. Those are the only real threat out there. Sensors allow you to see the enemy before it gets too close.

Speed is life. I have a series of modified transports that I have designed. Perhaps my most advanced has a movment rating of 50 something. This makes taking over planets blitzkreig style quite easy.

The abilities you chose can make a world of difference. My personal favorites are moral, economy, and diplomacy. In fact, I use the Humans and concentrate on just these three. Then I chose the populists and the government. Works great.
