Install struggle

I have a problem which I believe has root cause in XP, however even after the XP "correction I have a struggle.

I seem to have to correct my "security descriptors" every couple of days. The sign seems to be that I can not install a download.

I have downloaded the stardock central file many times, and the big file with the updates. Neither installs correctly, locks up, and I have to reboot.

The stardock central file gets as far as restore.ico before it hangs up. Before the descriptor repair, it aborted after a few seconds.

I have the retail version. I bought it because I could not install the demo. Imagine my surprise when the retail install, installs the grogram to the file extension that ends with galciv2demo. What is with that?
There is a loit of weird stuff going on with this program, and i am already regreting spending money on it, instead of perhaps a new OP system.

Any comments?

I have a XP home installed, on a 250 gb HD, 256 mb 6800gs, 1 gb ram, 3800 duel channel AMD. On board sound.

Can you post a debug.err file please, since that has all the system info we need anyway.

Are you running some very strict security software? There's no security option/issue like that with windows XP itself to my knowledge.

As to installing the retail game in the demo location, that can happen if you did not completely remove the demo first (if it got far enough along installing that it thinks the demo was there, didn't have to get all the way).

As to the crashes, there will be a file named debug.err in the folder GC2 is installed at (do a search if need be). If you post the contents of that file here it can help us troubleshoot.
