Problems starting Galciv after first install

Hi, I just installed galciv 2 , and when I try to run it I get the error message:

"Error running GalCiv II:
Object doesn't spport this property or method

Please ensure the game Is installed correctly. If so, try running it from the start menu."

I've tried running it from both program menu and from sdc. I upgraded display drivers to Nvidia forceware 91.31 and dx 9.0c right before installing galciv2. I'm running win2k professional SP4.
Hardware is GeforceFX5900 / Opteron 2.0Ghz / 1G RAM

debug.err is almost empty, it only says:
"Debug Message: Version v1.2 last updated on: Mon Jun 12 18:04:26 2006"

I've tried switching language between swedish/eng(US) but nothing helps.

Any ideas?

Hmm, I'm not sure what could be going on there (possibly a non-english win2k problem--I know there were compatibility issues with foreign-language win2k in the past).

Just to get the devs more information to work with when they come in tomorrow, can you post a dxdiag report (you seem technical enough that you shouldn't need instructions for that, but if you do let me know)?

Yes, but I tried switching language settings.

Well, I work as a software developer, but in Linux. I dont know much about fixing borken game station (eg windows) setups

As it turns out, it seems DxDiag has trouble as well with the "get system information"-part of its execution, so I'd guess the galciv-problem is the same one.
A DxDiag log acquired when I skip the infogathering part is available here: http://bluefire.dnsalias.com/droidbattles/DxDiag.txt

Off to try to google a solution to the "cant get system information problem"...

You might try reinstalling DirectX 9.0c. You can download it from www.microsoft.com.

Reinstalled it (and all other drivers) thrice before I posted here

It does seem to be hanging when it's trying to get your system information.  Maybe the information isn't filled out in your BIOS?  What happens when you right click on My Computer and choose properties?

I get a "System properties"-window that lists my OS-version, registration details, and some data on my system. It says:

Microsoft Windows 2000
5.00.2195
Service Pack 4

Computer:
AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 146
AT/AT COMPATIBLE
1 047 344 KB RAM

There are of course the other tabs with alot of information as well.
