The diswashing machine goes round and round...

It was a lovely 1 week underway. It started off normal for me. Down in my storage area, starting work on a way overdue and really needed inventory (underways are the time us in Supply can actually catch up, since we're busy as all get out when in port.)... I got to work Monday like normal.. then on Tuesday the dreaded news that everyone on their first ship dreads to hear came in... I was told that Wednesday I started in the fun task that every sailor goes through, cranking.
Cranking (or as it's now called 'officially' FSA work) is where you work in the Galley/Mess decks/Scullery doing cleaning, more cleaning, a little more cleaning, and food breakouts for the cooks. I currently work in the Scullery. I spend about a good hour and a half franticly trying to keep pace with washing the trays/cups/silverware that are used by the crew. (Is horrid atm since the garbage disposal sink doesn't work, which of course is the only sink that the high powered water nozzle that can clean trays in a flash can reach). I also work with the monstrosity of a machine that does the actual 'soap' wash and rinse of the dishes. Needless to say I'm everso thankful for that machine, but also aggrevated as hell by it due to the fact that it is a pain in the ass to get working right, something always seems to be breaking on it.
Exhausting work even though I'm just mainly standing in one place cleaning nasty nasty ass crap off of trays. I should also mention that for a crew of 350 or so people, we only have about 100 trays.... Fun shit!
Getting up at 0400 is fun also... I also shower about 4 times a day now too!!
Ugh... in port it's actually a really easy job, since not many of the crew are around unless they absolutely have to be... but we're going to be going underway a LOT in the next few months.... Fun timing... at least I'll get some port time for it! LoL
Only 117 days to go!!!
