GAME CRASHES

I just want to know why at certain stages my game will just crash. At first I thought it was autosave so I turned it off. Big mistake. Then I tried disk cleanup and defrag before every game session. Sometimes it worked and other times it didn't. The game still crashed. My machine is totally up to date, at least for today's standards. My drivers are all updated and my nvidia is the top of the line, 6180 or 6680, something like that. What's going on with an otherwise awesome game?

If anyone could please address this issue for me, maybe with a little more possible solutions. I've tried everything else, including raising my virtual memory. Nothing works. Sometimes it crashes immediately, sometimes longer in the game, sometimes not at all. Also, I noticed that when uninstalling the game and reinstalling the game, my last saved game was still there. I deleted all of the known stardock folders off my hard drive but the file was somehow still there. Hidden maybe? If so WHERE?

It may help if you provide some information about the problem. Here are a couple of things you can do:

1) Go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2 (or wherever you installed the game at), open the debug.err file you find there in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem.

2)
Please check to see if you have the in-game settings correct, mainly that you have 'throttle framerate' set to 'ON'. If that does not clear the issue please install 'SmartException' from the Stardock Central program. Make sure that the program is running and then start your game as normal. If the game crashes it will generate an exception report that can be emailed to [email protected] along with your debug.err. This will enable the devs/help team to see what is causing the error and hopefully provide you with a solution to your issue.

As to the saves, all saves and player data are stored under My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2.

I just started playing the game yesterday, and it crashes over and over. I've reloaded the saved file several times, to no avail.

Here is the debug.err file:

I would like to try Darth Kryo's following suggestion:
2) Please check to see if you have the in-game settings correct, mainly that you have 'throttle framerate' set to 'ON'.

However, I can't figure out where to change that setting. Please help.

You are running the original retail version, which did not have that option. You can find the latest release patch (v1.2) in the downloads section of the site here, which may alone fix your problems.

You should update to 1.2 which is available on the downloads page.
