Creating a windows blinds theme

How do you do it?

I am a graphic designer and love flicking through all the windows blinds desktop themes every few weeks and installing new ones on my PC. And everytime I do I want to design my own, but I don't know how. I downloaded a programe called skin studio, but that looks like hell and I'm sure you wont be able to use that programme to design things of the same quality as some of the downloads. Maybe I'm wrong, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Christof...you are on the right track. Skinstudio is the right program, and believe me, it's not as hellish as it first appears to be! And is what most skinners use.

You begin with making your images in whatever graphics program you like to use. Then you save them in .png format and import them into Skinstudio. This allows you to build the blind bit by bit without having to code each piece (skinstudio does that for you).

Skin studio has a pdf tutorial here: https://www.stardock.com/products/skinstudio/manual_skinstudio4.pdf

And you can also go to Skinartistry http://skinartistry.com/news.php for tutorials, and help and advise from the resident skinners. We also have a workshop designed for beginners and experts alike where you can get additional help, advise and test your skins http://design.skinartistry.com/news.php

The workshop even has a model skin by Night Train that you can download and use as a template. Stop on by, we'll be happy to help in any way!

SkinStudio is for putting the skin together, not for making the graphics.
