french campaings crashes

Hello, I'm a french trying-player of galciv2 and the campaign always crashes after first continue button. Normal play start correctly it seems.

Here are some other info about tricks I tried to solve unsuccessfully the problem :
- when crash occur, the computer goes back to windows
- disable audio device (from windows device manage cause no disabling is available in bios)
- extend pagefile size
- try several screen resolutions
- remove game, clean registry, drop my games\galciv2 directory, reinstall


- if I start a non-campaign mission and drop it, the campaign crashes lately, after the first cinematics campaign

Turn your language settings to English, otherwise the European decimilisation causes errors within the game.

Well, I may be wrong, but I am wondering if he is beta playing a french version to be released in France. In that case, changing the regional setting isn't an option.

I see that you have an old version (1.0X). Why haven't you a more recent versin of the game?

C'est un jeu acheté ou obtenu de façon, comment dire, détournée?...

C'est possible, mais dans ce cas, il manque plein modifications apportées au jeu. Ou alors il essaye le jeu avant de l'acheter ...

Ben non, il est super légal acheté en version française dès sa sortie. Le patch 1.2, en plus de ne pas régler mon souci, met le jeu soit en full-english (version 1.2 téléchargable), soit en french-bancal avec plein de libellés "string not found" si mis à jour via stardock.

Shortly in english : patch 1.2 does not solve the problem and drop french language.

Stardock central uses the dates on the various files to check if they must be updated or not. Sadly the dates for the french version won't correspond to the dates expected by Stardock Central for the corresponding version. So the update through Stardock Central is to be avoid unless a full 1.2 update has been made.

Concerning the language, it may be possible that the 1.2 full update has overriden a language setting. Do you still have a french directory side by side an english directory? Or were the french xml files in the english directory? But you should be able to play in french. Especially since a modification should have been made to read description in language directory and values in english directory: it was a concern by Stardock to ensure that translated versions are able to play the latest updates without waiting for translation of the new files.

Judging by some of those error messages, it looks like it's either not reading the correct data from the files, or it can't find the data.  Maybe the xml file is malformed.  Paradox didn't report any problems with the campaign to us, though.

Peace Phoneix, do you use the translated French files? If yes, do they work for you? If they do work for you, it must just be a bad install/update.

Nope. I play the english version since the various beta stages. But it would be nice if the languages files were downloadable through SDC, even if you have only the english version.

For the campaign'problem

All *.map are missing. for resolv this prob use the .map files for the english version

IT WORKS ! In fact I'm not sure 100% because I do not play more than 10 seconds but no problem anymore to start the french campaign in french.

Here is what I did :
- fully desinstall everything about galciv2 and stardock, including registry
- resintall game from cd
- install patch 1.1 then patch 1.2 (previously I bypassed the 1.1) --> make always same crash to windows
- backup full french dir
- copy the full content of english dir to french dir --> campaign start ok but of course in full english
- copy again without removing anything the contents of french backup dir to french dir --> ok for a few seconds then I stop because I have no time left.

I'll keep you inform but anyway, a mega thank you to all.

Well, patch 1.2 is a full patch from the retail version. So you don't need patch 1.1.

But now that you have a correct 1.2 version so you will be able to update through SDC without any problem

Peace Phoenix, I'll ask about posting the different language files on the website.  I don't think that we could do it with SDC, but at least then you wouldn't need to go to Paradox's website.
