Add more ram and replace the motherboard video with a real video card.

You only have 256MB of ram, and it looks like the onboard video may be sharing that ram. So effectively, you do not have the minimum requirements for running this game. You can check that by going into the mb BIOS and checking for the option to set the amount of ram to allocate for video. If it is in there the ram is being shared, and anything allocated for video will not be available for system use if the video requires it. And this game requires a lot of video ram.

And the game will never run well with only 256MB of ram, period. Nearly everything you do will require swapping to the hard drive, unless you stay on tiny maps.

Another possibility is that the 1.2 download was corrupt and you have a bad file. So you could try downloading the 1.2 update to your hard drive and repatching from there. But more likely is what I said above.

If it is a laptop, you could try maxing out the ram and then increasing the amount allocated to video to 128 - 256MB.

OK one thing you may not have tried but might help is to edit prefs.ini and set 'skip intro'. Set this to 1 to skip the cinematics at the start and then see how that goes.

Looking at your debug file i would say that there is nothing inherently wrong with the game and it would appear to be the specifications for your machine that are the issue. I am running the game on an old Athlon 2.4 (whilst i build the new machine) so you should have no issues there except on gigantic maps where some slow-down will happen. That said i would suggest upgrading your RAM to at least 1GB (you should have 2 mem slots) and maybe upgrading your graphics card to a new model (if you can of course).

Only other thing you can do is is make sure you shut down all other programs that are running and also clear the taskbar of all nonessential programs too.

Good luck!!
