Corel Paint Shop Pro X

$29.95

Ordered it over the 4th, it shipped WED and got here today. Every things from Corel although it's V 10.01 and needs 2 updates + all the extras you get when you register. Played with it for the evening and I do believe it's the best 30 bucks I've spent in a long time.

It's programs like Paint Shot Pro that remind me how far I am to the left of the bell curve. I started with version 7 and upgraded to the recent one earlier this year. To this day I still don't understand what a vector is. Nor how to work with something as an entirety after you added or subtracted a selection. The Help section in version 10 is MUCH better than earlier versions but I really need a live tutor.

Hi r7rea, greetings from Oz!

Is this the full version (or Academic version) or just the upgrade? I see from the sight that they will post it to Australia for a price. (Even with postage it's less than half the price I'd pay locally.) If this is a "fair dinkum" offer and you can vouch for the product I'll order it ASAP!!!

This is OEM software.  It only includes the cd and a cd key.

Correct it's just a cardboard jacket with the CD key stamped on it, but it's the full version. With the wealth of tutorials available on the internet for PSP there is hardly a question you can ask about "what is or how do I?" that you can't Google the answer for. I started with V7, couldn't get V8 off my computer fast enough, really, really like V9. V10 seems to be a solid build and has handled my first few hours of experimenting with no glitches, although I did have to re-boot between the 2 updates you need for it. All-in-all I'll stick by my "best 30 bucks" comment.

Thanks for the "heads up" Island Dog. I understand what OEM means in theory but I'm not really sure what it means in practice. I assume that it's properly licensed and will be OK to update to future versions. I suppose I'm a little concerned about what if any support is available.

Hi Robert. Thanks for your reply. It is very helpful. This will be my first version of PSP and although I've read good reports about it on the web I'm no expert. Does the CD include tutorials or do I need to download them from Corel or Google for them? Your experience with this online seller seems to indicate that they are a reputable company who deliver the goods when paid for. I would appreciate any more feedback.

Many thanks - Phil

Hi back at ya Phil! You don't mention whether or not you have any experience with graphic software. If not, all those tool bars and palette's will "huh" ya. I'd suggest starting Here and completing a few tutorials.

This purchase was my first with this seller, I paid my money and got exactly what I paid for in a timely fashion.

Well that didn't work, here's the "Here" link. [link="http://www.pspug.org/"]http://www.pspug.org/">Link

After thinking about Phil’s question on OEM compared to a full blown box edition, my personal experience with many software titles, is that there is no difference in the program itself or any of it’s functions [including all & future updates per that Co’s policy to all legal copies]. Pretty packaging, optional software (usually shareware) and a printed instructional manual for the security of “The Boxed” edition never made me pay (in this case) $129.95 for a piece of software I could get for $29.95 and have a perfectly legal upgradeable product. In other words you would not gain anything by spending more money.

I am always apprehensive when first dealing with a unknown online seller and this time was no different, which is why I did not post this deal until after it was installed and upgraded on my computer and I had spent some hours designing an icon I want.

Hope this helps
Robert

This really is a great price for PSP10!!  It's even less than the average education prices seen around the net. The Academic Superstore has PSP10 for $49.99 (with no tech support).

I'm bookmarking this site. They have very good prices overall.

Thanks for the heads up, Robert.

Beware of the instruction manual/help files for PSP X. It's full of errors that this website attempts to correct. http://suzshook.topcities.com/tutorials/10Errors/10HelpErrata.htm

I've bought from Purplus twice and had no problems what so ever with them. Bought Carrara 3 for 50$ and upgraded to Carrara 5 for 80$. Ended up with the newest version for less than half price. Upgraded my other purchase for a substantial discount. Both of these were packaged versions and was curious if the original companies would treat an OEM purchase in the same manner. Seems like it. It's a nice way to save yourself some money.

Happy ending to this story. I ordered it from Purplus (I live in Oz), paid US$7 for regular postage (forget US$22 for home delivery and insurance) and it arrived three days later. Works like a charm!!!
Thankyou everybody for your advice. Special thanks to Robert.
PS. Looks like the deal with Carrara might be worth following up as well. Thanks Majic7.

Carrara and Hexagon have since been bought by DAZ. You can still get upgrades and special deals though. They bought the contracts for the Carrara developers so hopefully Carrara will continue to develop in the future. If you buy DAZ's Platinum Club deal, $29.95 US to join, $7.95/month thereafter, they have some outrageous deals occasionally. I joined to get Hexagon for $1.95. Since then e-Frontier (Poser) bought Amapi and Eovia is no more. Hexagon uses some of Amapi's code so I'm a little concerned about it's future, but if DAZ and e-Frontier start suing each other I'm only out two bucks.
