New video card for me!

I'm still using the original drivers for my Radeon 9600XT 256meg .....because of that old adage..."if it ain't broke...."...

Just put a 9250 128meg into my wife's machine...cos I got it cheap....[the card, not the wife]...

I just installed my new video card, and I can see improvements everywhere, most noticable Windows Vista's Aero Glass, Windows Media Player, WindowFX, and WindowBlinds. The fact is: Even upgrading just a family (Nvidia GeForce 5200 to 6200) makes a HUGE difference!

I'm looking to upgrade my 64meg Nvidia GeForce 6200 card up to a 256meg Radeon 9600 to better utilise the features of WB5, WindowFX and Aero. At present I'm getting the occasional paint, redraw issue when my current card has more workload placed on it. It can draw on RAM to run at 256meg, and can display Aero in Vista okay, but I'm looking at a 256meg PCI-E card that can draw from RAM up to 512megs to run more efficiently in more graphics intensive situations.

Picking mine up next Wednesday...either a NVidia based XFX PCIe 7600GS 256MB DVI/DVI/TV Xtreme 500Mhz Clock for AU $167, or a XpertVision ATI Radeon X1300 Pro Super 512MB 128-bit DDR2 for AU $163. I guess which one will depend on which gets the better recommendation at the time, tho I'm probably leaning more towards the ATI. Thoughts/opinions anyone?

Beware of the 3D Fuzion Geforce 6200 PCI video card as people have had troubles with it playing video files or other video related applications.

Well I ended up with an Nvidia 6600GTX 256mb for AU $150 instead. I have it installed and wow, what a difference! Gone are my draw and re-draw issues, and Vista's performance report has lifted my machine from a 2 to 4.2. It mightn't be top end but I'm happy....does all I want it to, adequately supports the games I play.

Glad you like your choice starkers nVidia makes the best cards IMO.

Update, turns out the card was faulty and had to be exchanged, now I've got a XTX 7600GT 256mb....not top end but still does what's required.

I only have my pathetic 128mb HIS 9200 Excalibur video card... Can't wait till xmas! Upgrading to an ATI Radeon X1600 Pro AGP 512MB video card will give it some juice!

For Xmas I want a cheap little upgrade to a GeForce 6800 Xtreme. It is basically a 6800 Ultra, so the extra pipelines and pixel shaders can be unlocked.

I want to get those framerates in 2142 up.

A 7600GT would probably be a good choice. WWW Link

7600GT is definitely a good choice thats what I got (eVGA)but check Tom's Hardware for reccomendations WWW Link

they also have benchmakrs for every chipset and clock speed on their charts

I got another new video card a few months ago. 7800GS.

i have an ATi 9600 pro 256mb and it does everything i could ask for

Approx 5 days away from my new system. I've mostly been on a laptop for the last few years so I've gone for a Desktop with a bit of attitude. Including:-

BFG GeForce 768MB 8800GTX OC.

That's my next card....a PCIe put out by XTX. My fav puter shop has one put aside for me at a really good price....I'm paying it off, sort of like a layby. Have to do it that way cos I also need to up my GPU to accommodate the extra juice it will require

I'm also looking in the next couple of months or so to upgrade my Soundblaster Audigy 4 card to a Soundblaster X-Fi Platinum to function better with Vista. I cannot utilise all my current card's functions in Vista, meaning I have to dual boot with XP to access them, and I'm rather hoping to install that on another machine so I have so I can do away with the dual boot set-up altogether.

Congrats to all with nice cards.. mine just crapped out on me.. using onboard now
