Registration error - used serial?

To cut right to the question - I need to know if the serial number I am registering with was already used. When the registration fails the explanation isn't clear, it reads like this:

Error activating the product

afasfPlease check the serial number that you have entered and ensure that it is associated with the email you used. Try to activate the product again. If you are using Stardock Central you can right-click on the product and attempt to activate without reinstalling. Please include this log file when contacting [email protected].

I already tried registering by e-mail and e-mailing support directly for an answer, but I have not received a reply from either (the support e-mail was sent over a week ago).

And to explain the source of the question -

I bought the retail box from amazon.com through one of their 3rd party sellers, and I believe I received a used box, with a used serial number (the sale was *supposed* to be new). Unfortunately, the registration process is not at all clear about whether my S/N is used, or if there is some other registration issue, so I need to make sure the S/N is used before I request a replacement.

If you can't get a reply out of support, a good bet would be to get on IRC and talk to someone directly during business hours, or email [email protected] directly (probably won't get a response until Monday or Wednesday at any rate, due to weekend+holiday).

Note that if the serial is indeed in use, you'll need to either live without one (stuck with 1.0 on the disc) or purchase one at reduced cost. Stardock does not support reselling of the serials once they have been registered (I believe it is specifically prohibited in the license agreement).

As a side note, all support emails should get an immediate autoreply. If you did not, it probably got caught in the spam filter.

You might want to complain to Amazon, if it turns out that box is used. There's never any telling what situation they'll care about which ones they won't, but I doubt they'll like the idea of a fraudulent seller using their service.

You need to return the game back to Amazon and request a new one.
Looks like you where sold a used game. If they don't want to do
that, just return it ask for your money back for selling you a used
game. Then go an buy a new version from BestBuy or EB ..

Heh, I got this, Try again tommorow, It could be that the server is currently overloaded, And can't process all the orders. I was a bit annoyed, Went to bed, Woke up, did stuff, got home, Tried installerising again and it works. If that doesn't do it, Then complain.
