fog of war questions

Is there any way of turning off the fog of war on the main map so that I can see everything? On the minimap whay do all the stars appear in the area covered by the fog of war but not the planets or anything else. If I'm not supposed to know what's there then why does the minimap show the stars?

Well, telescopes can see stars, but not planets...
Research of Stellar Cartography (sp?) will reveal the planets on the mini-map ...
But NOT on the main map ... You must explore with scouts or survey ships...
Colony ships help explore as well ....
There is a CHEAT to remove the "fog" ....
But my advice is DON'T !!!!!
Explore as the game mechs allow...
And when you find aliens ....BLAST them to stardust !!!!!!
