Galciv 2 limited edition Starforce protection

I've just downloaded the limited edition addon and starforce is asking me for a 28 digit code that doesn't exist. Am I missing something or is starforce going on the fritz.

Er... GalCiv doesn't use Starforce protection.

In fact, the two companies have a bit of a historic animosity if I remember correctly...

um... limited edition?

do you mean the collector's edition? sorry, but you must have some other game, Stardock and Starforce have had some issues in the past, and they GalCiv absolutely doesn't use it.

Firstly, as others have noted GC2 does not use Starforce. In fact, Starforce forum moderators have *encouraged* piracy of GC2 since there is no protection on the retail disc at all.

GC2 does have simple online activation if you install a patch, however (the retail disc will run merrily without a serial key, but patching effectively changes it to a download copy). All you need to do is input your email address and serial key so it can generate a signature file for your machine.

By your comment that the code does not exist and that you called it the "Limited Edition" I surmise you are in Europe. The Eurpean distributor of GC2 botched the Limited Editions, only including the key that unlocks the special features and not the actual serial key for the game itself. You can get a serial key by providing your European Limited Edition code key at this link: https://www.galciv2.com/paradox

Starforce Sucks. Period. And GalCiv2 doesn't have it, or ANY Protection on it's piracy, other than your conscience, will to compete against others and wanting a fully updated game (All over-powering influences in my book).

For example, we were quite disturbed to discover that the company that makes Starforce provided a working URL to a list of pirated GalCiv II torrents. I'm not sure whether what they did was illegal or not, but it's troubling nevertheless and was totally unnecessary.

All software is pirated, there's no way around it. We've been making software for over 10 years. We don't like our software being pirated. Like I said, every lost sales has an impact on us. But there are other ways to reduce it than through draconian copy protection systems.

Incidentally, the site that Starforce's forum admin linked to "prove" how much our software was being pirated we visited, followed the instructions on the site to get our game removed and the links were removed within a couple of hours. We'll continue to follow-up with them.

Update: Starforce has removed the URL to the illegal files.

The oppisite of their job, starforce did.
So
1. GalCiv=NO STARFORCE PROTECTION
2.Starforce=Bad, for Everthing, proved here

So Remove the game. Ubisoft, One of the few American devs that used Starforce, just dumped it, Proof Here

You may have X3 though, that is starforce protected.

To all who posted before me, I think he means stardock rather than starforge. Of course, he could just be mistaken,

ShadowWolf,
The serialThat should be in the email that stardock sent you when you purchased the game online - or on the jewel case if you purchased it retail. If I remember correctly that was a 28 digit sequence.

hmm.. don't some people have banners that say "Boycott Starforce" because of its not very effective at it's job?
