Choppy Performance w/ 1.11

I just downloaded and installed the 1.11 patch, and GalCiv2's performance dropped considerably. Before applying the patch (from a clean install of GalCiv2 1.0), the game ran very smoothly. Now its very choppy. I had 4x anti-aliasing enabled (before applying the patch), but turning it off after applying the path did little good.

System Stats:
Athlon XP 2600+
MSI Geforce 6600 GT 128mb (91.28 Forceware drivers)
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS
1gb RAM

I fixed the problem. I was investigating another issue where my system locked up when I tried to play videos. I found a post online (Techspot.com thread) where a user mentioned that his SM (System Manager) Bus Controller was appearing under Other Devices with a yellow question mark in the Device Manager. Installing the utility package for my motherboard (Asus A7N8X Deluxe) loaded the drivers for the controller, and GalCiv2 has been silky smooth ever since.
