I assume you are trying to get it to work in windowed mode?

anyway, go to options and video, and select the resolution you want and unselect the fullscreen checkbox. that should do it. otherwise, I don't get what exactly you are trying to ask.

and yes the game does have the minimum resolution that you want to use.

And yes you can change it, 48 pixels can't be that much. Goto MyDocuments -> MyGames and find the GalCiv2 directory and the settings INI file. In there you'll find the width and height, change the height to 720 and see how it runs. You might get a bit sqished of a image, but thats better then forcing it to do 800x600.

#1 and #2 states the minimum resolution being 1024 x 768. It also further states that those are the minimum for both the X and Y coordinates, so basically, even if you're using something which overall might be above 1024 x 768 resolution, you may need to make sure that tne numbers are that or higher. This might be why you're having trouble running it at 1280 x 720.

There is no provision for using a television as a monitor in GC2, as in most games. It's a big oversight that a lot of developers make, often intentionally because the market segment it represents is infinitessimally tiny compared to normal gaming computers.

Well, we don't deliberately exclude people playing on their TVs, but we made the minimum resolution 1024x768 because we have to fit a lot of stuff on the screen.  You might be able to get it to run in a custom window by editing your prefs.ini file, but you might have to set Multisample=0 for it to work.  If you send me your debug.err, I might be able to suggest a few other things.

I also game on a Samsung DLP at 1280x720 (mine's only a 50" though ). I was able to run Galciv2 just fine by editing the My Documents > My Games > GalCiv2 > Prefs.ini file. Make the following changes:

DisplayWidth=1280
DisplayHeight=720
Fullscreen=0

That was all I had to do. Just so you know, you will still get an error dialog each time on game startup that states:

"Your desktop resolution is currently set to 1280 x 720. The minimum supported resolution for Galactic Civilizations II is 1024 x 768. Right click on your desktop and choose properties, and then click on the settings tab to adjust your desktop resolution."

Just hit okay to close the dialog - the game runs just fine after that.

Good luck!
