WC Personal Pages Continued

Good news and Bad news

Well, it appears that our database servers performed much better while the personal pages were off.  Not only was the database happier but we saw a significant increase in traffic to WinCustomize because there were less problems.  So its good that we have seen our traffic increase.   But its bad because it means there is a problem with the personal pages that is causing significant database congestion.

So here is the plan.  Later today (around 3:00) we plan on turning the personal pages back on for a short time (about an hour).  During this time we are going to be profiling database activity so we can try to find the problematic areas.  Then we will turn the Personal Pages back off until we can get the problem(s) corrected.  But since we do not know the exact cause of the problem we do not know for sure how long they will be down.  We will keep you informed.

In the 1 hour I was here ( between 5 am - 6 am although hard to tell because the time posting seems to be CST time as opposed to the usual EST) the site took forever to load before I even signed in. Once signed in...I was logged out of WC at least twice...maybe more ..i lost count. Usually after posting in forum I recieved the odd looking page with the enlarged font with " Time Out " message....I was no longer logged into WC . The Comment did not post.

Between the hours of 4am and 6am (EST) our server perform operations like backing up the database and checking database integrity.  Unfortunately these operations are very cpu intensive but very necessary.  During these times connectivity to our primary database server is poor and will cause timeout errors and slow loading pages while these jobs run.

Over the course of time we plan on breaking apart our primary database into smaller databases to help eliviate this problem. Unfortuntately we do not have a quick fix for this issue, it will just take time while we re-organize.

Well, we have knocked down some of the database issues with the personal pages.  So I'm going to leave the personal pages on all night and see how things go.

The personal pages them selves still need some tweaking to make them faster but we believe we made a good dent in the problems that were causing some of our databse bottle necks.  So cross your fingers and lets hope everything runs well.

I can view my " Skin List "
The only problem is when I view someone elses profile ...If I click on the link on their profile " My Skins " Thats what i get is " My " own skin list page . No matter who's link I click..I get my own. But I can view their WC Site ok.

Ok..at least there was a reason..just seemed a bit more than the usual. Plus the times being posted said I was here an hour earlier than I was. Usually everything is geared for EST.

The only problem is when I view someone elses profile ...If I click on the link on their profile " My Skins " Thats what i get is " My " own skin list page . No matter who's link I click..I get my own. But I can view their WC Site ok.


Quote thing seems to be working with Opera now. When I click on someone's name all I get is a Page called Stardock user's info and not the normal page with the pic and links to View Skins and Articles.

Personal sites all seem to be back to normal for now...even the " My Featured Skin " on my personal site thats been missing for awhile - is back....

I was wondering though...I've noticed an increase in the amounts of referrels on everything in my list..seems like the numbers have increased double or more. Im not sure I even understand what those are for . Are they something that is good for the site and you want them?
