Buttons all blank

I finally got off my duff and purchased the full game after playing the demo over and over and over and, well you get the idea. I have encountered most of the various issues a small percentage of games, and I can vouch that the hardware mouse pointer does work a treat. My video drivers are the latest from the end of 05, and I far exceed all the other specs. My XP is fully patched and stable under all other situations.
Unfortunately after downloading and installing the full game, all of my buttons are completely blank, and a majority of the fields as well. I can't see a lot of the crucial information I need to start, let alone play a game! After reading through the forums looking for a solution, I am starting to think it was a mistake to buy this game. I would appreciate any ideas.
