windows settings all lost!

greetings!

I'm a XP pro-sp2 user: I use windowblinds , was reinstalling to WB-5 and after a couple of reboots, it was working dandy.

then i shut down, 3hours later i booted up and found all my windows settings gone, folder options, firefox bookmarks lost, whatnot. The data is all still there, i have it on two partitions. The data drive is intact, and so is the drive where the o/s sits on. My XP profile is also gone, i thought i could retrieve it but there's only one profile under Control panel/User Accounts, that is the administrator one. sigh.

So it's not that big of a problem, but i was hoping to see if anyone here has heard of a similar problem before. I don't even know how to label this issue, or to begin troubleshooting it or searching for an answer.

i'm guessing it runs along the lines of a bad/faulty BIOS chip or weak battery, affecting the CMOS, ya think? anything to do with WB at all?
i've had this PC since december 2004, running fine most of the time, up to now no troubles of this sort. also, i'm currently scanning for adware and stuff, have avast antivirus turned on all the time. is it safe (or even relevant) to put up information here about how my network connection is configured? thanks.
besides uninstalling and reinstalling windowblinds, i also disabled UPnP settings. any relation?
please let me know if there's any other system information i can put up to help you guys help diagnose, if possible.

here's my rig's configuration-

i guess it would be great if i could get all my settings back in order, saves the time and bother to recreate everything back.

thanks again!

If you don't get any good answers here, you might want to try the "Tech Guy Forums". I go there all the time. They have some really good, knowledgeable people there that may have some ideas.

They will probably want you to download "Hijack This" and post the results. Just Google the program and you will find a download for it. It's free.

The link for the forums is here>

Hope you have good luck!

Thanks TheGuyPC!

Actually. i just tried to copy over the old profile folder (which was still intact) to a newly created one, according to this source Link

it works! well, almost perfectly, some settings could not be restored, but most importantly the major parts are ok. phew.

and yes i did post on the techguy forums, they do seem useful.
