Vacation

Don't burn the place down!

I'm off for vacation tomorrow morning and I'll be gone for a little bit.  Anyone who wants to post news can do the following:

Go to the forums, and then select "Create News Item". If one of the moderators thinks it's good enough to be posted, it'll get posted (And mods who are reading this, please check the news area to see if there's hidden news items to be unhidden to be posted) ;)

It's been a crazy year and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Folks, I wish I could tell you more but we're in the calm before the storm.  It's going to get very very exciting in the next several months as Windows Vista approaches.  Okay, I have just one tiny sampling of what I'm talking about -- animated wallpapers.

But in the meantime, lots has to prepared behind the scenes for when Vista starts to heat up.  Ooh, I just wish I could tell you all the stuff.

Anyway, after I get back from vacation, I'm heading to Redmond for a week.  If there's anything you want to know about Windows Vista that you haven't heard about yet, just comment here and I'll add them to my list of things to talk about. Microsoft has some exciting things in store for users too.

So don't burn the place down and have fun. And don't forget to feel free to submit news to us so that this news item isn't hanging around for two weeks. IF it is staying around for two weeks, we all stink. ;) !FROGCARE!

Brad's off on his boat, I'm sure...

Have fun...

As always, anyone can post/submit news items.  The section is constantly monitored for approvals.  [mostly because so many people tend to put things there when they meant to put them into the forums]...

Will Vista "upgrade" XP? More specifically, I bought XP64 and had to do a brand new install. Will we have to do that w/Vista? Also, Will Vista run in 64bit if a chip is found to be 64bit?

Yes, Windows Vista will let you upgrade from 32-bit XP to 32-bit Vista. I don't know about x64 XP to x64 Vista (and there will be a 64-bit version).

Great news Brad - a long overdue vacation.

Re the Redmond trip - one issue comes to mind - the ability to integrate DX gadgets with Vista (sidebar etc). I know this has been discussed and that you're having current issues with DX & Vista, but this is something I think will really launch DX to the next level. I have potential customers asking why I'm not using a certain search tool's widget engine, and I'd love to add "Vista integration" to the list!

Cheers,
M.

Hey Brad,

I hope you are having a great vacation!!!

I do have a question for Microsoft...."Why don't they wait for the 2007 Christmas time frame to release Windows Vista?" I mean c'mon they really screwed up by saying they would release it in the "early part of the new year" I feel this would give them more time to "perfect" all the poor design of the current beta. It's literally a glorified xp and I am not impressed. will there be any driver support for all the high end video and sound cards, (along with the applications that utilize those drivers?)Like the ATI All-In-Wonder TV tuners or Creative Audigies? Currently Xp Media Center doesn't support them and neither does the "Vista" media center. As far as The object desktop... I LOVE the fact that I can already achieve the "Vista Look" with out the headaches of a so far poorly designed O.S. If Microsoft can piss off the market and still slide on their latest announcement of a release date, then they could extend it to the "christmas rush" and make MAJOR improvements by re-anouncing yet another post-ponement and make their "great operating system" actually work"!! BTW.... What is the point of having 2 seperate panes in the start menu anyway? 1 long pane with the "all programs list" and the my other icons for my computer etc.. would be an excellent idea. The way that the new Vista does all programs now along with the icons (My Computer, My Documents, etc.... in one pane would be perfectly designed. So if you would please ask them these questions, and give them my ideas. Thanks for caring about our community and asking our opinions!!!

Perhaps it may 'look' a bit that way on the 'outside'...but it's definitely not the case on the 'inside'.

This isn't a GUI re-hash....it's a Kernel re-hash....quite a different kettle of fish...
