Problem starting the game

For some reason the game will not run when I click on the icon to play the game. I get a black screen then it will go back to my windows decktop. Can you help me get started to playing this game?

Update the game to 1.0x, and make sure drivers are recent.

happen to have a widescreen monitor? my best friend had the same problem because he has a widescreen monitor. If so edit the Prefs file in my documents/games/galciv2 folder look for displayheight= and displaywidth = and change them to match the resolution on your monitor.

I'm sure in one of these updates they will make it deal with widescreen monitors automatically but till then its a minor edit with notepad.
