Will there be more than what you already get

I would like to see more techs, hulls, gun designs etc etc

Hi there.

I don't know about you lot, but after playing the game a few times, I am getting a bit bored with the techs, hulls and weapon designs.

I know that as the player, I can make my own stuff up, by buying (or downloading) the appropriate software. The only problems for me are:

1) I don't know where to get the programs.
2) If I have to buy them because at the moment I have no income (due to an R.T.A.)
3) I'm crap at this sort of customisation.... seriously, you want to see some of the whacky, crazy ship designs I've managed to come up with. Also, I wouldn't even know to make custom gun/ship designs of my own.

So, in light of the fact that not everyone is good at this sort of stuff, will there be more Downloadable Content?

If so great, and will it also be available to buy in hard copy i.e. on CD/DVD etc.

If not, why not?

Any comments on this would be much appreciated... Especially from the staff.

Have you checked the Libary here at Stardock? There are new ships and stuff there, with more on the way after the upcoming 1.1 patch.

There's some full-conversion mods in the works. As for individual weapon models and such, I haven't seen any yet, but they're certainly possible. People have put movie-quality ship models in the game, already.

I don't know what Stardock plans on adding officially. Right now it seems like they're tightening up the gameplay and AI code, along with fixing bugs and better supporting mods. They might add some new models/techs/etc. in a free update or expansion, we'll have to wait and see. I wouldn't expect anything on CD/DVD except for the expansion for cost reasons, of course. You can always put it on CD yourself, though.

I expect most of the customizeable stuff to start appearing when the mod folder and such starts working properly

Um, what programs do you think you have to buy exactly? Short of changing the graphics in the game most things can be changed with any basic text editor.

Most everything you would want can be found free. For 3D modelling try Blender. If you need a graphics program try the GIMP.

I downloaded the Extra Hulls etc.

I found a program called Cooktop, that allows me to edit the files for the game.

I see that there are techs listed in the tech tree file that aren't used. Has anyone added these into their game, and if you have, how do you do it?

I hope Stardock will make some extra ship parts (and weapon / engine designs) that will match the Arnor / Dreadlords.

I changed the settings of my custom races ship type to 5 - Dread L / Arnour style. The ships look good, but there is nothing you can actually do with them (short of modding your race to have weapon and defence skill of about 11000)

Personally, I would have liked to see the poll for extra items win enough votes for them to have done it. $9 is nothing if you get a whole CD full of extra weapon designs, hulls, structures etc etc. I would like to see Stardock make their own program for you to design a proper hull, not just use the stock ones supplied.

Mind you, about 6 years ago, I was using a shareware program that allowed you to design space ships, and I think it rendered them too (like Bryce I, II etc)

If anyone remembers what it was called, do you know if any designs made in it will be compatible with Gal Civ?
