Debug.err posting-->game crashes when trying to open.

Strange small debug file.

I installed the game on this machine last night (running on an external hard drive) and it worked fine late into the night. Today, the first symptom I noticed was that when I tried to open the game the video wouldn't start, or the game would crash. I ran Stardock and got some beta update. Same thing, consistent crash when trying to open the game.

Here is the debug file. It is pretty short, i'm not sure what the deal is. Can anyone help?

You said you are running on an external hard drive - the game requires two file paths - one for the main game files, the other to your \My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2 path. Looks like that second path is not there. The prefs.ini file is located there - the game will not run without it.

Or it could be you Updated (Possibly) to a new GakCiv version that uses a DIFFERENT save game format. I know when the Beta gets updated sometimes the save games wont load properly or hang or just plain crash. Maybe that is what is going on as well...

Indeed, make sure your paths are all intact and also that the external hard drive has not gone and changed drive letters on you. Try wiping out your preferences stuff, in the My Documents\My Games directory.

On those failing, run SmartException (in the Free Stuff area of SDC), and then get the game to crash. It should generate more useful debug info for diagnosis.
