I'm learning to drive

Well yes, finally after all these years of messing around behind a wheel i'm actually learning to drive the proper way. And it is BLOODY EXPENSIVE heh.

I'm paying for a package of the code and 20 hours of driving lessons. It's costing me around $600 American dollars. I dont know how much you pay anywhere else, but for me it's expensive and as a result I'm paying in three times. And it's actually a promotional rate, like they do with old canned food, lol!

I went to my first lesson. I dont get to drive yet. I have to learn the "code de la route" as they call it. Which includes the priorities on the road, the signs etc. To pass the exam i have to pay another $35.00 to be signed up. And on the day of the exam they'll ask me 40 questions and if I answer 4 questions (or more) wrong, i have to try again and pay the signing up fee again. Well actually it's not a fee, I have to buy these special stamps that cost $35.00 all together. It's the same anyway. Bureaucrats just like to make you run around and waste time...

I dont know how long it'll take before all the data is inserted in my little brain, but i hope i pass all the tests before the end of the year. It has been on my list for too long now and even my cousin who's *gasp* 17 has a her driving license!!!! Shame on me.... I needed that kick in the butt to get me going.

Just remeber that the human body was never designed to travel at the sppeds our machines do.

Also remember the George Carlin definition: Driving is basically moving a big iron thing down the road without changing the shape of it or any other big iron things on the road.

I guess today it would be big plastic things.

IN the states, you get Drivers Ed (the book part) and Drivers Training in School, so it does not cost you anything except the licensing and testing fee (Not sure, but I would think about $50 now).  However, Insurance costs a fortune!

But if you dont do it in school and take a course, the cost is comparable.  I did not take it in school, so i did an OJT number (I was a poor college student).

Not in Washington. My oldest son is going through this now, or should I say the whole town is going through this now. They don't have drivers ed in the schools here anymore, so you have to go through a school, unless you are 18 (I think). We went through triple A because we have their serivce and it was about 300. and that is with a discount.
He had his first taste of gridlock yesterday on his way to school, because the VP was in town. He learned a little patience. I sure wish I had a brake on the passenger side of my car!

Good luck driving the big iron!LOL

Don't worry about it, I just got mine last year! It's not that I didn't know how to drive the darn exam was always a bit too tension filled for me, on my part that is. So I get all anxious and slip up and I never did it again...until last year; because living where I am, I really need to have it. Now I'm driving and saying to myself, why did I waste so much time!

Good luck with your tests. Just remember you're in control of your vehicle and not the guy behind you who thinks you're going too slow.

Then once you get it, you feel so splendid . . . for about three weeks. And then you realize that it just doesn't matter.

Between the title, the writers name and the first sentence I though this was about a horror movie. I mean women driving? I'm already getting chills up my spine.

Just kidding (well not really I really don't like women driving). I got my licence at the age of 18. All I did was take the test, no studying, passed it the first time with 2 wrong. Then I took a 2 hour lesson to prepare me for the driving test, then I took the test and passed with flying colors. I was born to drive, no one ever really tought me how to. I just bought myself a car and took off. No sweat.

Oh and I only paid $40 for the lesson and $20 for the licence.

Good luck with your test. And I hope never to bump in to you on the road, literally.

DrGuy,
Oh man, sounds like you guys get it for free!! Lucky yous, heh, I wish we were encouraged that way. The main thing that stopped me from passing my driving license was the price! insurance costs a fortune this end too unfortunately. Why oh why does life have to be so expensiiiiiive???

Kelly,
Okay i take it back on that first comment to drguy, but its still cheaper than here.
