N.C. State - they've fallen and can't seem to get up

I started to use the headline for one of those "oh, how the mighty have fallen" lines, but with limited space, and in not really wanting to really mis-direct the readers and give a fine school a bad name, I think the one I have now is more clear.
As a card-carrying member of Terrapin nation, I used to love to hate on the N.C. State Wolfpack. They won many battles against my beloved Terps, and kept them out of the NCAA tourney more times than I could count back in my youth.
Unfortunately for Wolfpack fans though, it seems that they've fallen on hard times lately, and worse for them, they don't seem to be able to right the ship.
News headlines are indicating that the Wolfpack have failed, yet again, to find themselves a new headcoach for their men's basketball team. They've tried multiple times, with the latest failure being the inability to bring Jim Calipari in from his current job as headcoach at one of this year's favorites in the NCAA mens basketball tournament, the Memphis Tigers.
I feel very sorry for the Wolfpack, really. They used to be an extremely competitive team, one that gave their rivals -- the Duke Bluedevils and University of North Carolina Tarheels -- a good run for the money at recruiting the best, and one that always had a good chance of going deep in both the A.C.C. and in the NCAA tourneys.
Can they turn themselves around? Perhaps. On the other hand, having been left at the altar twice already, they need to hit a homerun for sure in their eventual choice. They need a coach that will be able to sell N.C. State as the right choice, instead of Duke, UNC, or even the Maryland's, Georgia Techs, Florida States and other teams in the ACC. Not an easy task, especially when you're up against Coach K, Roy Williams, Gary Williams and the rest of the ACC murderer's row of coaches.
Good luck Wolfpack. Hopefully you'll be competitive again soon, and then I can get back to taking pleasure in watching your team be defeated on the hardwood.
