Panning without a middle mouse button?

OK, total newbie question but I can't find the answer to this though it must have been brought up. I, like many have a two button mouse with a zoom wheel. I don't have a middle mouse button for panning the view in the main map mode. Is there an alternative way to pan, not drag but pan i.e. rotate the view. I didn't see a keyboard option for this in the manual. Thanks.

In the 1.1 update players will be able to use Shift+Arrow Keys to pan the map around.

Using the Logitech mouse driver, you should be able to program your scroll wheel as a middle mouse button when you press it down.

Alternately, Stardock could do the sensible thing and use the number pad for spaceship movement and the arrow keys for panning.

Usually, the "zoom wheel" IS ALSO a button...have you tried to press it?

Another option is to program your mouse to treat holding down both mouse buttons as a middle mouse button.

hmm...has editing posts been turned off?

Anyway, I also recommend getting a different mouse, you'd be surprised at how useful 6 or more buttons can be, and how cheaply one can be had for.

Wouldn't that be akward? I have a 3 button mouse where the 3rd button is the wheel. It doesn't work though and I cannot program it.

But thinking that I would have to press shift (which isn't the problem) and then use the arrow keys (thus taking my hands off of the mouse) is akward.

Why not just hold shift key and then move the mouse left and right to rotate it. That would be easier (assuming that doesn't conflict with anything else).
