Escort-Ships

In my last game under B1.1-2 i noticed the AI would escort some of their Transports with "Escort"-Ships and some not.
The number of unescorted transports dropped as the game proceeded.
However, they only used that one ship-type called "Escort" for its namegiven purpose.

This ship was far behind the ships the AI used for its attack fleets. They all had 2 Beam-Attack and nothing else while other ships of that AI came with 10 or more beam-attack plus some defenses too.

Easyly counterable by some shield and any type of weapon. A medium hull with 2 shields, 1 Plasma and everything left reserved for engines could wipe several Transport+Escort-Fleets a turn before it was attacked by one of their real fleets.

Escorts are designed to be a deterrant. They won't escort if they can't see you, and if they can they'll use fairly weak ships designed to put you off using crappy fighters to wipe them out.

escorts are mostly so you cant pop transports with an "raider" cargo hold. big engines, sensors and one attack

Well, they kinde rendered my Tranniekiller-Design worthless but they weren't up to do something to help against my Tranniekiller 2-Design with less engines but some shields instead.

In the end I stil lost but the AI could have won with far less casualities by not having so many un- or poorly defended Transports hang around in open space.

I mean, really, the whole borderline was flooded with Transports waitin for their fleets to wipe out my defenses.
