Need a little help.

First I want to say I am not computer savy.

However, I would like to learn a little bit about the program that enables one to use thumb nail images in a post (like the ones here at JU).

Is there a web site for dummies about it?  I mean one that literally says,

"Step 1.. Turn on your computer.

Step 2....goto www and download..."

HAHAHAHA.

Really.  Anyone?

I'm so glad you asked this because I want a cute little picture on my stuff too. Now we just have to wait for the computer knowledgable people to respond. Unfortunately, it's not me. I'm getting better at figuring things out.

I think your question needs to be refined a little bit, I'm unsure of what exactly it is your asking. Perhaps an example of the thumbnail you are refering to?
If you are trying to have one picture, that when clicked on will take you to a different (possibly larger) picture, I can tell you how to do that. First you need the pictures, and they have to be on a publicly viewable portion of the internet. Then you stick html code like the following in your article: <A HREF=url of picture you are linking to><IMG SRC=url of picture you are using as thumbnail></A>
Hopefully that helps, if not, rephrase the question.

I would love to be able to put my Avatar on my signature too so that when I comment it's there. Yeah, that's it...how do I do that? Oh Danny....

go to the "my account" tab on this site...then click "update images"...there will be a place to upload your avatar called "personal image" that will display when you post. i believe the image needs to be 50x50 pixels wide in .jpg format. i'm not sure but i think you need to be a subscriber to have this option...i could be wrong on that.

hope this helps.

wish I could help, but danny had to guide me through it, I even printed out his instructions on how to do it, but as usual I have no idea where I put them.

If anyone knows of a program to load avatars or whatever they are called...let me know....

Thanks!

It is not JU. Go to the Wincustomize site. The option is not on JU, but wincustomize. Your login is the same as JU.

For the icons people have in the joeuser forums (wincustomize and just about anywhere else that links to stardock's database), go to this link and fill out the bit about Personal Icon (left side of screen, should be first grey bar). Click browse and find (on your computer, so if it's on the web you'll have to save it locally first) the picture you want to use. It should then make it fit for an icon. While this is a wincustomize feature I'm pretty sure that anyone with an account can use it, even those of us that aren't paying for the service. Perhaps I'm wrong, if so please correct me. If your wanting a program that will do this elsewhere, I'm not aware of any. But I still say elaborating on what you want as an end result couldn't hurt.
-scion-, this is basically what you said, but I thought I'd include the link to help those unfamiliar with wincustomize.

Glad it works So question is, do you have a subscription to wincustomize or is this feature truly usable by anyone?

I do not have a subscription to WC, just JU, so I guess anyone who is a part of the stardock network has access to it.
