Basic Game Manual?

Wiki has some good info but not everything. Is there an actual "manual" for this game? Or something that gives a complete description of the various play aspects? For example, I'm trying to learn what each symbol around planets on the main map mean. Surely that's detailed somewhere? And in ship design there's this little slider next to "Remove" that doesn't seem to do anything: where can I read about that?

i'm pretty sure that one of the tutorial movies explains what the symbols mean.

A red skull or unhappy face means the planet is going to defect or is unhappy and considering it.
A n orange hammer means it's building something. Different shadings (i.e. filled in or not and color of hammer i think) indicate if all the tiles are used or not as well I think.
A planet with a starbase has a little green or blue star symbol
An orbital defense system (think that's the name) that lets ships in orbit form a fleet looks like the shipyard but is blue instead of green or vice versa.
A little grey shield means the planet has something in orbit defending it from invasion.

Or maybe the button labeled "manual" when you double click your GalCiv2 shortcut on the desktop? The one right beneath play? That opens the .pdf manual that installs when you install the game. Alternatively you could simply browse out to the GalCiv2 folder and find the .pdf manual manually.
