3-D objects not showing up on main map

Planets, starbases, ships and everything else are not showing up on my main map screen where you do most of your playing. I get icons instead. Moons are not showing up at all.
However, stars are showing up as 3-D objects with textures. What am I doing wrong? Do I have some option I need to select or unselect?
