Questions, possible bugs

I have a few questions about Galactic Civilization 2 gameplay.

1) Do the bonus tiles in the colony screen actually work?

In my game I have noticed that building a research builing on a research bonus tile seems to do nothing. The Research Total for the colony increases the same amount as building the research building on a non-bonus tile and the Research "tp" of the bonus tile building on the building is the same as one not on a bonus tile. This stay true for all other types of bonuses. Checking in the Summary and Detials Screens of the colony also show no difference than bonus tiles and non bonus tiles. To top it off when I capture AI planets I find that they disregard bonus tiles and build anything on them; perhaps they know something I do not. Do these tile work? And is there any way to tell? I do not just want to *believe* they work.

2) When starting a new game and designing the galaxy the "Habitable Planets", "Number of Planets", and "Number of stars" setting have no real effect on what happens when the galaxy map is generated. If I were to create a galaxy with "rare" on all settings I get the same as if I put "abundant". I get stars that all have 5 planets and 1 out of 3 solar systems with only one or two habitable planets. Ummm yeah. Is this just my game?

3) In the game Manual is states that there is an espionage option called "Destabilization". I believe it states that that option effects the political party election thingies. I have never seen this option in the game, even when the AI have "voting" goverment systems.

4) This question is just personal opinion, but I mainly got this game because the reviewers said the AI was "off-the-wall, crazy good" in so many words. However for me the AI has done nothing smart, tricky, or devious other than trade technology between themselves, seem to never fall into debt, and demand exorborant prices when trading with me. I have never played above the AI normal and only played one or two game throug, perhaps that is why.

Answers to these questions would be greatly appreciated as it is fustrating me so much (along with other bugs that have already been stated) that I cannot continue to play the game.

Hmmmm, it does not seem to want to let me edit my post. Sorry about the not working bold tags, I accidently clicked pure HTML and everything went downhill from there.

Again please answer these questions. And, what I wanted to add, Thank You in advance!!

Hi, well - I'm new as well but I think the answer to question 2 might depend on the size of the galaxy your playing, if you are playing a small map the game may require a minimum amout of planets, suns e.c.t.

I can't help with the others yet - but I'm sure someone in this excellent community will be able too.

1. They definitely work in my game. You can probably check it easier with a 700% manufacturing bonus tile. Plop a factory there at the start of the game and you should be losing a LOT of money.

2. Again, this works just fine in my game. Rare,Rare,Rare medium map leaves each AI and me with just the starting system - and possibly one more world somewhere. Abundant across the board makes for each race colonising 10-20 planets.

3. Destablisation is currently out of the game. I know they are looking to put more espionage in soon.

4. It really depends on what level you play. If you want to see the AI do clever stuff, you've got to play on Tough - that's where all it's potential is unlocked. Still then, you can be lucky or unlucky. Sometimes the AI does devilishly clever things, other times it's really mechanical and stupid by human standards. One thing the AI will always do - if it keeps losing battles to you, it will research and upgrade to counter you.

I have the same problem in a Saved Game of my own, but it's limited to Research Tiles only. Other tiles (esp. Manufacturing!) work just fine.

In my case, I have 2 Xeno Labs built (one in a square with a 300% Research bonus), and the screen says that my total TP is 28. BUT, even with spend at 100% and my Domestic sliders set to 66%, I can only get 14 Research points (and when at 33%, I can only get 7).

I'd be happy to pass along a copy of the saved game file to the Developers if that'll help to investigate the bug.

You say they work, but how do I check. Everything I look at indicates that they do not work.

Strange, this game's installer must be screwed up then. In my game "rare" and "abundant" show no difference on huge maps for me. And every solar system has like 5 planets.

Atleast I know this is not just limited to me then. But, again how are you checking to see if the tiles work? Maybe the problem is just in the way I look.

For me the tile thing is just a minor bug, but the every galaxy look the same it really annoying.

As I said: control and n until you get a 700% manufacturing tile on earth. Look at your income.... rush buy a factory and look at your spending. You will notice straight away if you have got the bonus as building a factory on a precursor mine (700%) is like building 7 factories at once - your spending will go through the roof and you will be losing a lot of cash per turn.

I said it works *in my game* because.... well... it works in my game!!

I second my question above and add a new one:

What does miniaturization actually do? I checked my Stinger Missile Size before researching miniaturization, it was 18. After researching Basic Miniaturization (which gives miniaturization +10, whatever that means) my missile size was still 18.

Since component size increases with hull size a huge ship has just one or two more weapons than a tiny ship. Which is a really fricken stupid to have made ship design.

Edit: Found the answer to my question. Miniaturization increases hull shize, which is completely counterituitive.
