BETA 4: Last one

Beta 4 will be the last public beta of GalCiv. After that we're not allowing anyone else get the beta (anyone new).

We haven't decided whether we're going to have the gammas be available to everyone in the beta program or not. We may limit it to those who have ensign access or higher.

I play atleast 1 game per week, never lose, and still Citizen. How do I get promoted?

Mainly we're looking for beta reports that help us make sure the game is working properly and equally important, that it's fun.

Umm yoiu mean the "send report" button on smart exception doesn't work? Ihave sent a number of crashes with it.. did not realize had to post the results here.

The "send report" button never has worked. Your not knowing about this may be as much an oversight by us testers as it was SD, since one of us should have made sure that any post giving the link to download SE had the instructions for sending in reports. Many of the threads did, some did not.

The best way of submitting SE reports is to post them here (so the rest of us can avoid duplicate reports) AND to send them clipped to an e-mail to Cari. Her address is [email protected] .

There is no hard coded way of how many posts on the message board it takes.

We read through the posts and when something is found particularly helpful we raise their access.

Beta 4 will be out soon so we'll be able to see who reports and what they report.

it might be good also to "request" certain combinations or senarios be tested rather than just report what we find - I think that would be of more value to you.

I was just wondering if there is or can be a list of bugs compiled for each beta release? So as new and valid bugs are found by other players the list can be updated and read by everyone. This way we don't have to send you 50 duplicates SE reports for the same bug. In general this forum doesn't seem very efficent way for keeping track of such information. If there is such a list were can I find or get access to it? Unless of course you don't want us "Citizens" to know such stuff.. :)

They won't even let us "commanders" see it.

Someone, I've forgotten who, it was a while ago, made a search engine for the forum. I have it bookmarked at home, so I can't link it now, but if someone else could that might be very helpful to us mere "citizens" ;)

My guess is running internal versions the Stardock guys are know of many bugs that nobody else has even reported.

One of the hard things they have to decide is what bugs should be fixed first and so they monitor the forum and see many users noticed a bug "for example in ship movement" and work to kill the visible bugs first.

I think that public users knowing in advance which bugs are known at least to us is important. This is why I opened a known bug topic.

Most of the betas I've been involved with before publish a continually updated Version Control File (VCF), which lists known and probable bugs.

Other usefull info includes descriptions of new modules and updated code, and an indication of where the beta testers should be targetting the program for stress testing.

I would advocate the use of such a document or web page so that we can get rid of all the duplicate and misleading bug reports. Rule One would be 'if you think you've found a bug - check the VCF first'

Romulus one,

The flip side of the formal approach you mention is that if someone sees a bug that is already reported (s)he does not report a duplicate. Sometimes a duplicate report contains a different description of the same bug that turns out useful in locating the cause. Could this be why Brad prefers this more casual format?

Well, I was just hoping for some sort of process that would save for confusion. I guess it must be the engineer in me or something. ;) I am sure Stardock knows what they are doing more than me, but I hate feeling like I might be wasting their time too. Having lack of few other options, then probably reporting your personal "bug report" list is probably all you can do. :notsure:

I am rambling here, but while I am at it I also thought I would metion that I like the game so far, and I like games that aren't so much into the "wargames / shoot-em-up" type thing. I wish there were more games out there like this, so keep up the good work. :)

However, I am afraid to admitt it, but I must be a pretty lowsy player, because if I have any of the aliens on smart or better they kick my butt. :( If I play them as average I usually always win with a cultural vicory, and never get very far with the techs. So for what it is worth that has been my experience so far.

Also, at this point I "think" I have found most of the bugs that others have already encountered. The only things that I have a dificult time explaining are what to me are wierd pirate or space shark things that happen with planets. It is hard to tell if they are bugs or not.

Well I got going here and I had better stop before I put everone asleep... :)

Can not sleep must play the game. LOL

I have real problems winning when the AI is set to high levels as well.

Seems like the AI gets all the best planets, technology, and cash like they are growing it.

Would it be possible to put a link to a page on the sidebar that has all the info that you would like us to send you and how to get it for you in a way that helps the most. I am sure that most have been covered in the forum but I have'nt seen them (probably before I joined).

Things like smart exeption I did'nt know existed untill a few weeks ago.

This is the first time I have been Involved with a beta test and to be honest I not really sure what you need, or the best way to get you the info.

I always wondered how people got to Ensign. This thread is the first reference I have seen anywhere on the site.
