patching policy

Getting this latest patch is driving me nuts, the amount of loops hoops and what ever im having to go through is unreal.I still dont have the patch,i download the software patching thing from stardcok but having problems getting it to recognise my updated serial number( due to it being a euorpe special edition).

love the game so far , but the patching policy totaly stinks. I have typed my 2 different mega long serial numbers which contain lots of 1I0O SO MANY TIMES im about to give up on ever getting the patch.(i can not copy paste on some of the various forms i have been presented with)

All i really want is to put my serial number in once when i install the game and down load a self executable patch when one becomes available.

I really carnt be arsed with sites like stardock.

You only need to input it once--the problem is that Paradox put the wrong serials on the ones they manufactured. You can trade in the serial that came with it for one that will work here: https://www.galciv2.com/Paradox

And you'd rather have Starforce, the Cd-drive destroying malware?

This is one of the more smooth yet secure ways of doing things that I've found.

Stardocks method is truly the best way to do things. They actually made more sales doing it the way they currently are then if they had used something like starforce or a rootkit. I always check on a game before I buy to see if it has some kind of nasty DRM. There are plenty of games I would like to get, but if they have starforce or Securom7 then I just pass it by. I can't afford to have that crap running on my machine since I do plenty of critical work on my system. Last thing I need is some DRM crashing Maya or destabilizing my OS.

There is no reason they can't store the serial number in the registry and have the program provide it to the patching software. Windows does it. Stardock can even encrypt it in the registry if that makes them feel better about it. Typing in the same outrageously long serial number over and over is not more secure - it's just frustrating.

I don't know I never type my serial in, only once when I bought the game, after that it downloads patches quete nicely.

I have my setup working and even updated my license from the temp from the download.
But it is a bit confusing when there are serial numbers on the CD's and an insert with a collector's edition serial number as well.

I'm not quite sure what the problem is. You have to put the serial into Stardock Central once. That should be it. If you've bought online you might not even have to do that, as it'll probably associate itself with your Stardock.net account.

The dual serial numbers were a mixup at Paradox's end, and by the time they realised there was a problem it was too late for them to change the boxes, so we just had to deal with the situation.

Never enter my Serial, email account and password is enough for Stardock Central

If you don't have Stardock Central, just put your serial in a text file so you can copy&paste when more patches are released.

i got the patch and ive calmed down some what now.To elaborate on what my experience was tho:(boxed version of the game)

1 I installed the game and it said , type in your serial number if you wish to get updates.So obviously i typed in the serial number as getting up dates is nice.

2 I clicked on the download upadtaes button on the web site and got, plz type in your serial number to get the patch,i thougt thats why i did the above /shrugs, so i type it in.

3 I then notice a little link to the top right saying if you bought the game in europe click this, arrrrg, so i click it

4 this page says , plz type in your serial number and email address to recieve your updated serial number as a error was made by paradox with the original numbers.

5 I get my new serial number in email. i get the patch to my desk top and double click it, yay at last and i breath a sigh of relief.

6 after patch has installed it says, you will need to register with stardock to to unlock the features of the patch,i go get my spare keyboard at this stage. and click on the register button .i was really getting frustrated now.Rember my serila contained lots of 1i0O in it.(both of em )

7 I fill the form out and get invited to download some software which will help with getting updates .i do this only to unlock the patch features.I really dont want the sofware but i go along.with it.Im pretty frustrated and not thinking properly now.

8 i install the new sofware and the first thing it is asking me for is the serial number and other various information.I fill out the info and clikc update, error your serial number is not recognised.Running out keyboards now,I copy and paste form the email and retry, same error, serial not recognised.

9 i uninstalled the software and walk away form the comp.Hour or so later i reininstall the stardock updater thingy, but this time the software auto fills its self out as im now registered from step 7 and i see it has put in both serial numbers in its self and im able to get updated.

as i said in my first post
