Can't get ship planet textures to work

Even with all the options on I do not get planet / ship textures or for that matter any texutres to work. I know I have a powerful enough machine to run them all 2 gigs ram an nvidea go gtx 7800 video card. First few times I played game i had the textures. I can't think of a thing I changed to turn them off but now I can't get them to work ..
Hope someone has some suggestions . Thanks in advance

I have windows xp professional .. my computer is from dell and everything is set to english usa.. Lol i am from usa and speak no other language so setting it to anything else would be foolish.. But it does sound like my problem only I am running an english version of windows xp .. thanks though you where on the right track .
