In The Dhip Designer, why is Laser IV bigger than Laser III?

All of the descriptions, as well as the sizes of objects, suggests that weapons of the same type get smaller as they go through new versions. Why is it then, that the opposite appears to be true in the ship designer. That is, why is the default size for a laser IV bigger than the default size for a Laser III.

Is laser IV when it jumps from 1 to 2 damage? If so, then it has been my experience that the 1st higher damage weapon in the line is bigger than it's predecessor and the next ones in that damage line are simply smaller versions.

Lazer IV appears bigger but it's actual size cost is lower. Plasma weapons are the first 2 damage beam weapons

Because bigger is cooler.

This happens with engines too.
