Major Memory Leaks

Anyone else experiencing major lag.. which increases the longer you run the game.. From past experience, this usually means a big memory leak.. Any way to fix it?

As the game runs, its naturally going to consome more memory (more ships, planets, things happening). However, I've yet to experience any sort of lag or slowdowns thus far. Can you provide us with some basic computer specs (processor, memory, video card, video card driver version) so that we can make sure its not a hardware issue?

Yes I have a P 4 2.2 768 Rambus 6200 oc Graphics. after playing game 1-3 hours my comp is very slow and in task manager CTR ALT DEL explorer is using like 200 k mem and in othe tab it says cpu usage between 90-100% and wont go down. I have to restart to fix. very annoying!

Yes I found this too. The longer the game the slower it goes. I agree in the thinking it is a memory leak.

It's not a memory leak.  I can tell you exactly the issue and I can tell you what we're trying to do to address it.

The issue: Players and AI design their own ships. Over the course of the game, more and more ship designs get made -- not just by you but by the computer players as well.

When you load up a saved game, the game does a "garbage collection" and clears the memory of any design that is currently not being used.

The solution: To have an in-game garbage collection that goes through and finds ship designs not being used and deallocates the memory.  But it's a tricky operation to do in game and not one we want to jump on until we've gotten everyone who has any sort of stability issue taken care of.

Thanks brad. Makes sense actually that is a lot of computations to keep straight. So to help do this we should upgrade/destroy our old ships?

But why then does it remain after exiting game? will the "garbage collection" help if also done after game? I have to restart my comp to fix it.

If it does housecleaning on a save/reload, why do all my obsolete / deleted ship designs keep coming back? (Not to mention being able to construct two different varieties of thunderfury, one of which I'm keeping deleted... wierd)

When I exited the game last night, I noticed Windows reporting that I was running out of virtual memory. Looking at the task manager, peak usage was at something like 1.2 GB.

Hey Frogboy..

This bug also affects memory after you exit the game.. I've recieved the same message about running out of memory.. It made me wonder whether Stardock was associated with StarForce.. I'm hoping it isn't, as many others out there have experienced similar effects after StarForce was put on their system.. It doesn't make much sense that once Gal Civ ends.. the memory isn't wiped clean.. Any thoughts as to what might be lingering in the memory to cause this slowdown? Hmmm?
