Problem with the movies

They chop and skip. About every 2 seconds, horribly. All of them, even the Stardock logo when the game starts.

They run fine on my desktop system, the problem is on my laptop. Its an Inspiron 9300 running XP home. Go 6800 with the latest drivers from dell and some kind of embedded sound chip, also with the latest drivers. I cant say I play a ton of different games on it (or watch any movies on it), but its fairly beefy and I play WoW on it all the time.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice.

Mine tend to only play well for a little while after starting the game. After a few minutes' play time they start freezing on frame one -- the sound goes on and I can end the cutscene normally, but no vidio.

You may want to try and reinstall your video codecs. Simply reinstall or update windows media player.

Hey guys,

your Inspiron 9300 has got a Intel Centrino CPU (Pentium M) by default and that should be a dual core processor. Now I can't promise that this will work, but you might wanna try it out:

1) Run the game
2) Hit CTRL+ALT+DEL in your keyboard (this will open the Windows Task Manager)
3) Select the "Processes" tab
4) Look for the "GalCiv2.exe"
5) Right click and select "Set affinity" (roughly translated, I have a German OS, sorry, it's the option at the bottom of the menu)
6) uncheck everything but "CPU 0" and Click OK
7) Close the task manager and return to the game

try it out

I've got an Athlon 3200 with an Nvidia 6600GT with the latest drivers and the intro movie skips. Yet it plays fine on my Dell Inspiron 8600 Laptop with ATI9600 video card.

Ah ha, I turned off the hardware mouse option and my movies play smoothly now.
