Next Level Gaming has the first review of the retal version of Galactic Civilizations (v1.0).

What can be more fun than playing a fantastic strategy game… oh wait I know, what if they throw in funny comments, like when you read technology upgrade descriptions and you find yourself cracking a smile or even laughing out loud.  I can’t stop playing this game, I’m so glad it didn’t come out during the holiday season or there is no way I would have gotten any other games done.  95/100

You can read the whole thing here.

PC Game World has a review up. It's based on the gamma version (the final version is considerably nicer) but it's still a thorough review of what you can expect in the game.

While the Stardock love is flowing I should also mention that they forgo the usual draconian DRM mechanisms found in most of today's games. Once installed no disc is required to play, and the game can be installed on multiple computers with the developers blessing (provided they are owned by the same person of course). Between my HTPC, My laptop, and my "gaming rig" I have three computers that I regularly play games on, and now I don't have to shuffle the disc around my house to play this game where I want to. Thanks Stardock.  90/100.

You can read that review here.

Thats it Brad -

I hope you realize this means the world needs you designing games more than it needs more buisness applications. After just finishing my last Shelf exam in med school, the timing couldnt be better, or the wine so sweet. Your masterpiece is like water to a desert-parched throat.

Ok, now Im wierding out.
Time for you to become the next Bioware.

Ugh while the two reviews I read gave the game good scores. I didn't agree with their conclusions. Like the last paragraph. Seem to me he was dissin' GC graphics by not commenting on it. The graphics are sweet.

The other one says that no MP is an Achilles heel. I don't know how many times we beat that dead horse and drug him around. I'm happy without MP. An Intelligent AI really makes up for all those lousy human MP experiences. Oh well..
I'm sure there'll be more reviews. It's a truly awesome game. You shouldn't take someones' word for it. You should buy it if you don't have this game and experience the awesomeness for yourself.

I don't mind the lack of MP, but there's something nice about playing MP coop against a bunch of computer players too - and teaming up on them mercilessly

Lack of MP was his only big reason for not giving it an even higher score, hence he mentioned it at the end. Makes sense to me.

(I have played Civ 4 on multiplayer with a friend, and it was a blast. A horribly addictive blast)

While a good score is nice, just what in the world is the reviewer talking about when he says he didnt rate the graphics, and if you must have great graphics you'll miss out on this great game...ummm what?

Sure we arnt talking about the end all be all of graphics....but compared to every other strategy game out there its a 9 out of 10 or better IMHO. The only place I think the graphics are less than great looking are a few of the cutscenes which look real fuzzy and washed out (like they blurred them so they didnt look really fake). But the in game graphics you play on turn in and turn out are awsome...and FUNCTIONAL....how many games look pretty good but arnt functional...anyone....age of em....err but I digress.

GC2 rocks in the graphics department.

I am puzzled about the graphics mentions as well.  The screenshots on the most recent review are pretty old (like last summer).  I am not sure what they mean.

They (the screenshots) are issued in media packs that most review sites use as standard. Some developers and publishers get upset if you use custom screenshots, in most cases it's best to use what you were given, and thats what has happened. Just thought I would give you a little insight to how things work,

The graphics are great, but (of course) are not up to the standard of the latest blockbusters, nor do they need to be. This is totally acceptable for the genre (if not the best for the genre) but most sites and mags mention it so pure eye candy fans are not upset.

Personally people seem to be concentrating on a few negative points which most reviews have. Three reviews all over 90% is more than great, its fantastic, you should be talking about the GREAT points!
