Thanks and a handful of minor bugs

First off, thanks for a great game. I've always been impressed by Star Dock's support of its products.

I've got a few questions about some things that may or may not be bugs:

1. The latest patch .008 broke my launcher. I can only start the program by clicking directly on the game .exe. Once my boxed copy arrives I won't be able to update my serial number.

2. The resource base info window causes a strange graphic effect. The graphics for any installed mining components cause large white boxes to appear that obscure most of the window. I'm running the game on a 1.5Ghz w/256 Megs of RAM, Windows ME, and a 256 Meg FX5200 Nvidia card.

3. If you move a ship into a square with a fleet with 0 move points and combine them into a new fleet, the new fleet has has the movement points of the arriving ship. You can exploit this to leapfrog a fleet across the map by adding ships with unused move points.

4. What is the status of captured trade goods? I've captured a number of planet's with trade goods on them. I can't decommision them, they don't show up as usable in the trade window, and as far as I can tell, I'm not getting the bonuses for them. If can't get the bonus for them, could you change it so i could at least destroy them and get the use of that tile back?

5. The same goes for captured Tech & Manufacturing Capitals. I can't decommision them and in my last game this prevented me from building my own on a planet that would have yielded a lot more research than the captured one.

6. The game won't let the player build multiple star bases within 3 squares of each other. In my last game the Torians had two Econ bases (not mining) within 2 squares of each other.

7. The United Planets war tax event taxed me even when not at war. Is this as intended? I fought a war, destroyed my opponent, and then after the war ended I still had to pay the tax.

1) We didn't really do anything with regards to the launcher.  And by that I mean we didn't change anything.  It should not affect the launcher any way.  You could check your registry (HKEY Local Machine) to find Galciv 2 and see what it's path it.

2) I'm glad SOMEONE is running it on Windows ME.  I'll have to ask the team what would cause that.  WHat's the date on your video drivers?

3) Yea, we know about this one. We just didn't want to fix it for the reasons you describe.

4) We are still deciding what will happen with trade goods that are captured. We previously had decided that whoever makes the trade good keeps it. But some/many people want it to change hands.

5) Ditto

6) Yea, the AI is using newer rules that haven't been implemented for the human.  The AI is only allowed to build up to 4 star bases per sector.  The human can build more than 4 but not less than 2 spaces.

7) Not sure about that one.

Conerning #7, do you have a saved game that this is reproducable with? I'll look into it otherwise, but having the saved game always helps speed the process along If you have it, just send it to [email protected]. I can deal with it from there

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick response.

I'll check the registry for #1

2. I have Invidia's Geforce 77.72 drivers installed. The 81.98 drivers didn't like my system and caused all sorts of direct draw errors.

7. I think I should still have a save where I'm at peace and the war tax appears on my economy screen. I'll send it.

I checked the registry. The install path and exe are right. Using the shortcut and clicking on the launcher exe have the same effect--nothing.

Should the revision and version numbers match? The revision is .007 and the version is .008.

I guess I'll try a fresh install when the box gets here.

Thanks!

One last thing. For running the game on a low-end system with an old OS, it runs awfully well. The only thing's I've noticed performance-wise is some slowdown late in the game on the larger maps and the explosion effects stutter some.

Great job. I was afraid when I saw some of the early screen shots that my system wouldn't be up to it.
