Strange Problem with creating ship designs

I am encountering a wierd issue with ship designs. What is happening is ship designs I saved in previous games are bleeding through into current games when I create a ship with the same name as an old ship design. For example in my current game I made a ship called Laser Cruiser 1 which was the same name I tend to use (in acending order) for all the laser using ships I design. However since its the same name as an ship design from a previous game when it builds, it builds a different version of the ship, one with technology far beyond what I currently have. The same is happening for a number of my ship designs. I have tried to save and reload since that has fixed small problems in the past but it hasnt helped.

It is a feature that your old designs are saved. To save you work in designing them again. I do not know how to get rid of the old designs though. I personally like to design new ones each time and hate having to obsolete and delete my old designs. I do know that pushing the delete button doesnt stop them from returning next game.

Having the exact same problem too ,annoying, to say the least. It also might have something to do with the ship design crash I'm experiencing. Who knows

Might be nice, a few patches from now, if we could just save ship design 'profiles' and either load them up with a new game or start from scratch (or even with no pre-built ships at all).

Well one way I have gotten rid of the same name old ship designs, is to go into my documents folder and in the galciv directory deleting all of the user created ship designs. Stopped my crashes when I make same name ship designs in a new game. Of course I delete the custom ships before I start a new game. And I also tried deleting and then loading a save game but that turned out some strange results, so I wouldn't recommend that.

I am also having this problem. I quit for dinner last night, and then reloaded the game only to find that I have the option to build 3 versions of the same ship name. One build was a first build of a medium class ship I named Striker 1 that i decided I didn't like and scrapped the whole operation. I then redesigned the ship and gave it a new name Slug Hound 1. I later created a heavy firepower fighter and called it Striker 1.

When I came back to the game and loaded it up there were 3 Slug Hound 1 versions to build, even though I only had 1 design and 2 Striker 1's. The Strikers were priced as the heavy fighter, but came out looking like the old medium class ship I scrapped. The Slug Hounds came out normal, but they were listed 3 times.

Hope there is a fix soon for this.

Iam having the exact same problem with my "Cylon" fleet. I had created a Gal Civ based on the infamous Cylons from Battlestar Galactica, and now the build queue is building the first model (crappiest ship) no matter what. I had created a ship called "Cylon Constructor" after messing with it about four times (4 different models) also, I was just replacing the whole ship after saving it by not changing the name, just overwriting it. SO today I reload the game and all the "deleted" "cylon Constructor" ships were all there. I thought it a little odd, until I tried to build a new model... now planets always reverts to building the ship farthest down the list, regardless which one I choose to build. This really sucks and its making me not want to play the game.

I like my Cylons!

So you guys and me are not alone

When I design a ship not specifically used at the beginning of the game, I just make an empty hull. I already know I like the look of the ship, now I can get the hulls as soon as the appropriate hull tech is discovered, and implement appropriate weapons, engines, and defenses I need as they're researched.
