Game crash when invading planets

I'm midway through a game as the Terrans and its now crashing whenever I try to invade a planet. It seemed to be working before, I invaded a few planets with no problems. Also the enemy can invade my planets and the battle screen shows with no problems.

I started this game before the patch was applied. Now I've applied the patch and just resumed the saved game, could this cause a problem?

Anyone else had this happen to them?

Is there a way to help narrow down the cause of the crash, like a crash log file?

Its annoying to have this happen so late in the game, especially the first game I'm really winning.
Suppose I can always start another one, but I'm worried about this happening again.
