Where is the Math?

Need More In-Depth Info.

I am needing someone who understands exactly how all the math of this game works to explain to me the answers to a BUNCH of questions I will detail below. If there is any additional information needed, please let me know. (The fact you need additional information may very well be the answers to some of the questions)

After landing a colony ship on a brand new planet, I am trying to understand how the game arrives at some of the numbers it displays on the planet screen. Below (hopefully in the approximate location you would see them on your screen) I will list what currently shows:

Planet X
Military (2) Social 1 Research 1

Food Production 5 mt/wk Income 5
Influence 20 ip Spending 14bc
Approval 81% Maintenance 12bc

(Only 1 building is present)
Initial Colony Maintenance 12bc
Industry 12mp
Research 10tp
Food 5 mt/wk
Morale 5 %

That is roughly what is on the planet screen. The tax rate is 33% The industrial capacity is at 50% and the spending rates are 33/33/34

Hovering the mouse over the Approval rating is says: (Morale 78% -0% from population, -40% from taxes, +4% from buildings, +14% from native ability)

QUESTIONS:

1) How does it arrive at the Military (2), Social 1 and Research 1 values, and what exactly do they mean? The planet has an initial colony which has an Industry of 12mp. At the 50% capacity, that is 6mp being used. I would have thought it would therefore make it show up as Military (3) and Social 3. Im guessing there are some other factors at play here, so what are they and how does it make it equal what is displayed?

2) Research is listed as 10tp. Does 10tp = 1 whatever it is ? (the # displayed up top right)

3) Im not sure how a morale of 78% equates to an approval rating of 81%. (Glancing around the forums, I see others asking this as well, so it looks like nobody really knows the specifics of this) I absolutely hate it when a game does something in the background without saying how its doing it.

3b) I see how the math equates to the 78% morale, but the +4% from buildings is being arrived at how? The Initial Colony has a 5% Morale modifier...so how does that equate to a +4? For now I will assume that the +14% from native ability is correct, but I will have to look more into that to see where that # is coming from.

4) How is Income of 5 calculated? 33% is the tax rate, but there are only like 220 mil people on the planet. (still looking at the manual to find the answer to this one)

5) How do they come up with a spending of 14bc? There is no star port and nothing is in the queue for production. Im looking at the empire overview and dividing the total expenditures by the # of planets I own, but it does not equal 14 so Im kinda lost as to where this is coming from. /pulls hair out

6) Maintenance is pretty easy. Its just a straight correlation from the maintenance of the initial colony (since its the only one currently present). However, I was curious how you determine which planets are helping pay for upkeep for ships and where it is displayed?

I am going to stop there and ask more questions later in another thread since this one is long enough already. I LOVE games like this that are havily math oriented, however the manual in this case just does not go into any real detail at all, and there is no in game windows that show the calculations for everything. It makes it very hard to figure out where everything is going and where all the numbers are coming from.

Download the update. The tooltip text had a glitch caused from a Bonus pack update. It's been fixed.

The morale seems pretty straightforward:

Your base morale is 78%. Your building gives a 5% bonus. 5% of 78 is 3.9, or a +4 bonus from buildings.

Oh, and I have to also add:

"Math. What is this Math you speak of?"

I downloaded the update and a bunch of numbers changed around, but I still dont see how the game arrives at most of them.

For example, my production at my home planet is 24 from my capitol. At 50% capacity, that equals 12. Spending is listed correctly as 12. With a 50%/25%/25% spending ratio, it is coming out correctly with the following:

Military is 4, and Social is 3. That leaves 3 (rounded down) for Research.

However, the capitol has a listed value of 24 for research. How does that tie in with the spending of 3bc in the research field to yield only 3 research? Im spending 25% of my income on research, but 25% of the total value of the capitols research would have been 6.

Those are the types of things I am confused on. How does the ammount spent, interract with the research value listed for the buildings on the planet?

Camo: That 78% was the RESULT. From a total of 100% -40% from taxes, +4% from buildings, +14% from native ability, you would get a result of 78%. That still did not explain where the 4% came from originally. Now that I have patched, I will need to look at this again (although I am still seeing some funky numbers).

Ahh.. Found it!!

"It costs 1 bc to convert research into 1 Technology Points." Gah.. one stupid little sentence hanging me up.

Now that I finally figured it all out, it sure would be nice to list somewhere on each planet what that planet's Maximum possible Military, Social and Research values are. AKA, it would be nice to see that you have a surplus of Research potential already before building another research facility. That way you know when to increase your economic base relative to your Military, Social, or Research potential.
