Major Bug In Gal Civ II

video becomes unstable after 5 hours play when invading an Altarian Planet

I was 5 hours into game play as Terran Alliance invading several Altarian planets on my turn . The video started jumping as I invaded a planet and was unreadable. Using Abit nvidia nForce 2 motherboard with Athlon XP 2500 processor. 1 GB of matched Kingston Hyperx 4400 memory. Using Windows XP Pro service pack 2 . Video card is ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 8x agp card. Using latest Catalyst drivers from ATI website version 6.2.
I have never had a video crash on previous Stardock released games. I hope the fix comes quickly and without major difficulty. I was able to shutdown the application by suing ctrl-alt-del and closing the galciv2.exe process.

Have you checked to see if your video card perhaps overheated? I know some have complained of that, since GC2 is a lot more intense on your card than it appears to be (if your card reports that it has a feature, GC2 will try to use it).

Is there anything in the debug file that might be useful?

How would I know if the video card overheated? As soon as I hit ctrl-alt-del and closed the galciv2.exe process all was well. I see no reason to assume it had anything to do with a heat problem, which I have never had in the 2 years I have used this card. The fan on the card is working well. The case is cool and very well ventilated.
