Launch Day Experiences

Life from under the desk

We were assured that PC games were "d0med". We were told nobody plays turn based strategy games despite the fact that Civilization 4 is a huge hit.  But here we are, seeing activity at 10X the level of GalCiv I which in itself did far better than anticipated.

Things went a lot smoother than we had expected and ironically, a lot smoother than they would have if it weren't for just plain luck (we reserved a ridiculous amount of bandwidth which turned out to be just barely enough).

You can read some of the experiences we've had from the trenches these past two days at the link below.

Aye, Ive said it before but Ill say it again... The success you all are enjoying is well deserved and I appreciate all the efforts every one of you have put into this game to bring us to where we are now. Im so glad the community is backing up your strong efforts with a big showing on the financial side... One can only hope that there are other indie type development teams out there that will follow your lead and do things the Right Way...

Congratulations!

I have to agree, my own launch day experience was flawless. 5 meg download...I hit update, and it zipped by before I could blink. 5 minutes home from work and I was playing Galciv2.

Flawless.

I don't know if you're aware of it or not but Tycho over at Penny-Arcade.com has refrenced this game several times, including today (2/22), on site as something he's really looking forward to (that's actually how I even heard about the game). I wonder how much a PA game endorsement boosts a games sales. They've got a rediculous number of readers and seem to draw attention from alot of the significant publishers and developers so they've gotta be at least a bit influencal.

We love Tycho.  And I think it has a major effect, particularly on smaller guys like us.
