Artifacting in graphics

First my specs:

Laptop
Windows XP (SP 2 with all updates)
2.0 Centrino
ATI Mobility 9600
1 GB Ram
60 HD (2.5 GB free)

In the game and on some menus I get artifacting (don't know how else to describe it) in the graphics. I'll see every half a second or so graphic fuzz. Kind of reminds me of a TV on an ariel antenna when you're not quite getting a good signal and are getting a little bit of static.

It seems to happen more in the static parts of the screen (not the main space section) where you have buttons and text. For example it also happens on the main options screen. I would give you a screen shot, but doubt I could capture it. It's not too annoying and after awhile I just get used to it, but I thought I would post it in case other people are seeing it.

I thought it might be my graphics drivers, so I downloaded ATI's latest and have a program that will force them to install. But it didn't help. Also I tried windows mode but it still does it in windows mode.

I know it's probably system related (Laptop with mobile graphics chip) but I'm hoping someone has seen it and has some advice for me.

Could you post your debig.err file here so we can see some more specifics on your system info? I have a Toshiba with an Intel Intergrated Graphics Card "Extreme" (read: Extreme-ly Crappy), and I havn't seen this

However, if it dosent support DirectX9.0c, there cound be some issues there.

Looks like your graphic drivers are 1.5 years old. Mayhaps the graphics driver update did not complete correctly. I would recommend downloading the newest (non beta) version of the Catalyst drivers from the ATI site. Radeon Mobility 9600 should install fine as the chipset is reasonably new. If it does install and you have the same problem try uninstalling your drivers, then installing them fresh.

If it refuses to install, do a google - someone has been able to force-install them I'm sure. I seem to remember someone's repackaged the drivers to allow you to install catalyst drivers on propriatary laptops.

That's interesting that it says the drivers are that old. I have that program that foce installs them. I'll try to do a fresh install of them
