Questions after my first game

Hello:

After having played my first game just now, there are a couple of things that are unclear to me and for which I did not find any information in the manual. So I would be glad if someone could help me out:

1. On a planet where I built a farming improvement, the food production still was only 5mt/week. Thus the game did not count the 8mt/week of the farm, just the 5mt of the colony. How come and how can I change that?

2. On ship design, when designing a new ship, do I always have to do it all over again? Can I not take an old design and keep the design but upgrade the components. That is absolutely tedious.

3. I have downloaded the game and have no video sequences whatsoever. The game works fine, but dled files are only 250mb or so... Is that all?

Thats it for now. Thanks for answers.

1. That shouldn't happen. If it really does, I suspect a bug.

2. Just click on "upgrade" instead of "new" in the shipyard and you can change the design of an existing ship and save under a new name.

3. No, it's not all. Click on the small plus sign next to the GalCiv2 download and get the rest (tutorials, movies, multimedia)

As for the vidio, You most likly need to download the multimeida pack, and probobly the totoraials. You can get them buy clicking on the + next to Gallactic Civilizations in stardock central. The entire game is like 1.4 gigs.

When designing a ship if you have a design you want to improve on simply go to the ship yard screen. Select the ship you like and click upgrade. then you can tweek it all you want, then simply save it as a new design name and you will have both the original and the template ship avalible.

Also. If you play new games in the future, using the same "hull style" the ships will become avalible for building as you reserach the techs used to make them. You can also delete them forever from the Ship yard screen if you end up with a long list of ships you no longer use.

I will have to leave the farming to someone who knows more then me.

PS. If you have not downloaded the totorails, you should they answer alot of questins. Maby not all of them. But alot.

Well, concerning the ship-upgrade, tried that but the upgrade button is always greyed out. This was the cause of my question. Intuitively, I tried to do it exactly as you suggested, but a greyed out button is a pretty huge obsacle...

The upgrade optioned are grey'd out because you can't upgrade core ships for whatever reason. You have to design your own ship from scratch using the new ship button, then you can upgrade it.

I personally would much rather just tweak the built in ships, I don't want to spend the time making my ships pretty

Yep, I was planning on making a thread about just that. I wish that the core designs were just treated the same as custom. In my mind, "upgrading" a ship design shouldn't overwrite the old one, just make a new one with "Mk II" on the title or something. Then, since the previous designs aren't deleted, you would be able to do it to core designs at will. Maybe in a future patch (please?)

Well, take a look at the human colony ship. Could you create exactly the same?

Since you can't upgrade core designs (btw: why?) how about addint an option to "copy" design or use some design as "template" ?
I am too find problematic that when I wanted to put another weapon on "Defender" leaving everything else the same (including look).
