Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords released!

It's here! it's here!

February 21, 2006 -- Software developer Stardock Entertainment released the sequel to its award-winning PC strategy game, Galactic Civilizations today.  Galactic Civilizations is a space-based strategy game set in the 23rd century in which players take on the role of leader of a space-faring civilization.  Through military might, diplomatic skill, technological superiority, or cultural supremacy players attempt to dominate the galaxy against up to 10 opponents.

The sequel, Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords, is a complete overhaul of the game that includes possibly the most sophisticated visual ship design feature seen yet in a PC game. It also includes fleet battles, sophisticated planetary management, the civilization manager, advanced diplomacy, and much more all encapsulated in a state of the art 3D engine.

The game should be available at most retail outlets in North America this week and across Europe and Australia over the next couple of weeks. It is also available for immediate purchase and download at www.galciv2.com

It will run on Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP, and Windows Vista.  The game engine is resolution independent and is scaleable to ensure that it has very high end graphics on the latest hardware but will still run well on low end desktops and older laptops.

Stardock has also released the Bonus Pack for the game today which added several new custom maps, scenarios, starship components, full-screen video tutorial support, AI tweaks, and much more.

Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords lists for $39.95 at retail.  Stardock's home page is https://www.stardock.com.  More information at the game's home page https://www.galciv2.com.

Ha ha, no comments because everyone is playing.

Great job on the game. I'm really enjoying it so far. It evokes all the find memories I have of playing turn based strategy games as a kid.

Also, I LOVE the text. It's actually worth reading which is a great change of pace for the genre.

ahhh I am stuck at work please let this day end so I can go home and play

Yes, I think everyone else is playing, and of course it is difficult to break away from any given point. To make matters worse, when you go to quit now the robot gal taunts and tempts you by suggesting that it wouldn't hurt to play a few more turns...

Anyway, the download went smoothly, good job. The game looks great. I can't believe how fast the loading and saving is compared to the beta.

Great job!

While the screenshots show that it's a graphically superb game, they don't do it justice. You have to play it to really appreciate it. The 3D interface and scaling are far and away the best in any game of its kind today.

I just don't understand why did you do the tutorial videos for the bonus pack only !!!! Put them on this Website! Its not very smart strategically to make the learning curve higher by not giving tutorial videos. If they're just too big for your bandwidth, use Bittorrent . Otherwise, don't make the videos full screen but on a lower resolution. I'm not complaining, I just think that would be best for you. (and us as well actually )

All versions get the tutorial.

"My God, its full of stars!" -er, I mean. This game is amazing guys. Every single bug that I submitted or found but were already submitted is fixed. Everything is polished. I will name my first child Stardock.

Oh, and the sound track is great. Going to try the campaign tonight.

Is there a game time timer or a turn number timer? It was a feature in Civ 4 that was great. I work and such so my time is limited. A timer in game would help me monitor myself and extend the longevity of this game for me.

Hm. The game looks and seems excellent, but there are a few things I wonder about... 1. Where is the map editor? 2. I'm getting no sound... yeah, my sound card is ok, the speakers are on and the settings are right... anyone? 3. Is there a way to rename stars and opponents? I liked that bit in the original game, I hope they haven't forgotten it this time.

Shandess: You have to download the multimedia, movies, and tutorials to get those things.  The base game is just the base game.  Go back to SDC, click on the + and download the other things.

Oh, about the sound... I didn't see the extras in Stardock Central until now. D'oh! Well, it's bound to work now!

I have been having difficulties downloading anything through Stardock central. I can download about 35% of the multimedia files and then it suddenly stops and tries to install them and tells me it cannot do it.

Is there anywhere I can download them without having to use Stardock? The game downloaded fine but the multimedia files are being a problem.

Oh, where do I submit 'glitches' I have found? I somehow managed to 'buy' several different facilities in one turn and, in later turns, they kept showing -1 turns to complete and would never complete. I had to delete them from the queue(and lose the money I purchased them with) in order to restart their building.
