STICKY: Making backups of your stuff

Yes, you can burn it to CD and such

I know some people out there don't like Stardock Central.  Features = Complexity and we totally understand that.

Here are a few benefits of Stardock Central you may want to take advantage of:

You can Archive the game.  Just right click on the game and each module you want to back up and select "Archive".

This will ZIP it up to the archives directory in Stardock Central.

You can take this ZIP and burn it to CD, put it on other machines in your home.  Our license allows you to have it on as many machines YOU OWN as long as no more than 1 copy is being played at a time per license.

You can take the ZIP file and put it on a machine that does not have an Internet Connection.  You will need to install Stardock Central, however.  Once SDC is installed, choose File->Restore Applicationa and browse to your ZIP file.  SDC should take care of your various registry things as well as activation (if you don't have a net connection, it should bring up a dialog when you try to run the game that will require that you get email support to get a special code).

If you bought the retail version, none of this applies as you already have a CD and you can make backups of that as you will, same license restrictions.

I could install the game succesfully, and I've created an archive to take the game home, where I have no internet connection. (I have installed SDC on my home computer). When I restore the archive I always get an error: It cannot be activated. (after that I can register my game, and it appears amongst the purchased games, but it still cannot be activated, and the galciv.exe file is missing from the game folder.
How can I install it to an offline machine? I don't think it would work if I just copy the installed game to my home-computer. Help, please.

Ive been trying to do this for a few days now. Ive followed the instructions to activate by email from my comp that has net access but haven't gotten a response yet, either by email or on this post.

If I had known it would be this much of a pain in the neck to activate without the net I would have bought the game from the store.

yes please help

Please help me out here guys...

I don´t have internet at home. Not even dialup I´m afraid. Can I DL GalCiv2 at work. Use archive function and burn the .zip on a dvd and bring home? If I also DL stardock install file and install it at home? Or does stardock need a to validate by internet?

I just installed GC2 on my other computer by archiving:

- right click on galciv2
- archive application
- entire application (including skins)

that included the tutorials/movies/multimedia

I could too make an archive following these steps (which resulted in an 1Go .sdc file) but when I tried to restore it in another computer that did not have an internet connection, I could not. The restore option was even greied out.

How do you selectively archive the main program, audio, and movies into one file? I decided not to download the tutorials, but whenever I right click on the main program to archive it, the tutorials first start to download. Any suggestions?

I was hoping there was a way around this, but I've had to download the tutorials before archiving the game.

I also selected all skins selection, but it DIDN'T archive everything, as far as I can tell (It tells me they need to be downloaded)

Indeed, the archive file was over 1 gig when all was said and done. . . how could this NOT include everything?

PLEASE STARDOCK HELP ME

I even have internet on this PC, just no broadband, so I CANT redownload all the movies and sounds!
