STICKY: YOU have questions? WE will try to answer

Before you make that post..read here..

Using our vast psychic powers, we are going to attempt to preempt the most common questions we think people will have and put answers here so that the main forum can stick to flaming us for not having some feature or because the installer formatted their hard drive (a problem that we've found only happens on 1 out of 3 systems and only if you have an nVidia or ATI card -just kidding-).

#1 What's the difference between the Bonus Pack and the Collector's Edition?

The Bonus Pack everyone gets. It's a series of minor updates, tweaks, and new content that we came up with while we waited for the stores to get their copies.  If you download 1.0D then you have the Bonus Pack.  There will be a seperate thread that explains what's in the Bonus Pack.

The Collector's Edition is a special version of the game that has additional content and is only available to users who either pre-ordered the game, bought the Collector's Edition specifically (Walmart or Stardock directly) or got the game as part of the first manufacturing run.

The Collector's Edition retail box is silver and contains a poster with the entire tech tree on it.

The electronic content that will be a seperate download in the Downloads section contains the Galactic Civilizations II Desktop and additional Ship components.

#2 I'm in Europe and..

Our publisher partner, Paradox, makers of great games like Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron is handling things over there.  It should be available at retail soon.  They are also working on native language versions throughout Europe but that's going to take some time.

If you're in Australia or New Zealand, Auran is taking care of things there and they will have it out shortly too.

#3 I'm a member of TotalGaming.net, can I get the CD version?

Yes.  If bought TotalGaming.net and used tokens to get the game, it's $5 plus shipping.  IF you got a free upgrade to the new TotalGaming.net (And if you don't know what that means then it probably doesn't apply to you) then getting the boxed version is $20 plus shipping.

#4 I want to download the game now! Do I still get a box?

If you select to get the retail unit when you purchased then yes. You get a temporary serial # and the box will be sent to you.

If you selected the download only option, you can later have a box sent to you for the cost of shipping.

Please copy and paste these items to [email protected] if you want to do any of these things so that they know precisely what you want to do.

#5 I want to go to the store and buy the game but does it have copy protection?

None whatsoever.  No CD check. No "Star Force". Nothing.  You don't even have to enter in the serial # when you install (because, let's face it, 5 years from now people are going to lose that thing anyway).

That said, we recommend putting in the serial # because it'll make it easier to get updates. Updates require the serial #.  Once you have updated using the serial #, our system will have your info for you so that 5 years when you've lost that serial # you can get it back automatically.

So... I preordered GalCiv 2 back when it was first available (sometime last year), then I ordered a TG.net subscription... then they upgraded TG.net subscriptions so that you would get GCII for free.

Is there any way I wouldn't have to pay the $5 + s/h to get the box version? (If I have to thats cool)

Ok, so I didn't preorder, but want the Collector's Edition stuff. It says I get it if I order the Collector's Edition specifically (from Walmart or Stardock directly). I see no specific option for it. So will I have to wait for a Collector's Edition to come, or what is this about upgrading to Collector's Edition. I do not know because I haven't bought it yet and thus don't have that "eligible for X upgrade" thing.

I just went to the stardock FAQ, and it said that all "Direct CD" orders would have Collector's Edition statusfor "at least a couple of months". Which option is that exactly?

So I can't edit...

Oooooone more thing. Since it appears that retailers won't get the game until later (I just called my Wal-Mart) can I preorder and still get CE stuff?

I've read the manual and googled "galciv2 playlist" to no avail - in the audio options I dont have a "Use Custom Playlist" option. I have the downloaded version and I slapped a couple of mp3s in the "music" subdirectory but they never get played.

That's my only problem with the game so far, it's a great piece of work. So refreshing not to be punished by DRM every time you go to play a game, and so refreshing to pick up where MoO left off

Q: Is the resources bugged? Or did I miss something? A starbase mines a given resource fine if you're the first constructor to visit it. If you're not, blowing up the base also blows the resource ?? Was this intended? To my knowledge it isn't.

I know this may be stupid question and likely already asked, but if you buy the box from stardock is there any downloading necessary to play the game once I get the box.

Do new (default) types of warship automatically arrive in the list of ships available to be built dependent on which warfare techs are researched as in GC1, or do new techs just make newer/better components available which we must use to create/modify designs ..?

Ok, I've preordered and received my copy of GalCiv 2 from Paradox (European publisher). How do I get access to the collector's edition stuff?
Sorry if this has been asked before, or if it's posted in the wrong thread.
Thanks!

EDIT: Okay, stupid me. I found the sticker with the instructions on the back of the manual now , so never mind. Cheers!
