Reinventing Galactic Civilizations

Apolyton has the prelude to the making of Galactic Civilizations II

http://galciv2.net/4/166/293/

Apolyton has an article in which the designer Brad Wardell recounts the days following the 2003 release of Galactic Civilizations and early ideas on how Galactic Civilizations II would be like.

The screenshot seen here is of an early post-Galactic Civilizations concept.

This Apolyton article is a good read. An interesting history of their development process.

Aye, it is a very interesting read. It reminds me a bit of those after action reports on game development. Except Brad's being so openly honest it's kinda refreshing. And unexpected. Most of the time folks try to obfuscate numbers, or what not. It's cool to see this team doing what they are doing.

hehe Gotta love looking back on old mockups. I especially like the little picture of a husband and wife as the icon for "Populaion". Look's like they just got out of the Sears Photo studio.

They're also human, so I guess that was before we had officiall decided to let players be the other races. Ah, the memories!

Heh, I can imagine StarDocks reaction when faced with a simultaneous launch of the sequel to the thronekeeper of 4x TBS space games knows as Master of Orion II. (Never played any MoO game actually. I was too young to appreciate such complex games back then. It looked really complex after all). Giving up on all their great plans of expanded content cause they thought that MoO III would utterly destroy GalCiv.

While the writeup was a good read, Im dissapointed they only displayed thumbnails of the mockups they were given. (Thanks for linking to atleast 1 of them in the post here, Tandis!)

Details man!! I want the details!!

Very interesting, i didn't realise you had someone from WETA digital on your team. Though I guess it makes sense as GalCiv2 is very ... precious to me, though I abide the release date with great pain.

Yeah looks good but why at Apolyton only? They have very few members who play it. The Galactic Core www.thegalacticcore.com or NeoTech Gaming www.neotechgaming.com both have many more members involved with the game then they do.

Still great to read back on the history of it all. Good work guys! No offense to Apolyton but its a Civilization website NOT Galciv really.

Haha... great joke.

I was surprised by the WETA connection as well.
